Southeast Health & Wellness Center
Grand Opening Celebration

The Travis County community gathered together in February to celebrate the grand opening of the Southeast Health & Wellness Center. After several years of planning, design and construction, the Center, located at the intersection of Montopolis Drive and Oltorf Street, was fully operational and opened up to the community on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Along with our partners CommUnityCare and Sendero Health Plans, Central Health invited all members of the community to the celebration, which included live music, games, prizes, health screenings, and more. Tours of the Center were available so visitors could see the wide range of available medical, social, and healthy living services.

The Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center houses one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in Texas. CommUnityCare, which operates the clinic, is expecting 80,000 visits in 2016, and will offer an array of services for low-income and uninsured residents including:
  • Primary care and specialty care; including endocrinology (diabetes care), gastroenterology, and pulmonology (respiratory diseases)
  • Walk-in, same-day appointments
  • Radiology and mammography
  • Behavioral health care including individual counseling and group therapy
  • Dental services
  • On-site pharmacy
  • Prenatal education and care
Other features and services at the Center go beyond medical care and include:
  • A teaching kitchen for healthy cooking classes
  • A community educational garden
  • Free exercise classes
  • A "Centering Pregnancy Program" where expecting and new mothers participate in group visits and learn from one another
  • Diabetes support and education classes
  • A WIC (Women, Infants and Children) office with expanded services
  • Ample public meeting and gathering spaces including an outdoor plaza, playground, and community rooms
  • Community Resource Center to assist with eligibility and enrollment for health care coverage, screening for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Central Health's Medical Access Program (MAP).
If you're interested in learning more about the Center and the services it provides to the community, contact Program Manager Elizabeth Marrero at 512-978-9807.

Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year - more than all cancers combined. That's why Central Health was proud to be a local sponsor of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 26.
Central Health is here to make our community stronger by investing in access to health care for our most vulnerable residents. We are the local public entity that connects low-income Travis County residents to high-quality, cost-effective health care. Central Health works with a network of health care partners like the Community Care Collaborative, the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, and Seton Healthcare Family to eliminate health disparities and improve safety net health care delivery as we transform Travis County into a model healthy community.
