Seton Teaching Hospital
We've just taken another huge leap forward to fulfill promises made when you voted for Proposition 1 in 2012. On Wednesday, our Board of Managers voted to approve the ground leases that will allow Seton to begin construction on the new Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin.

The ground lease is structured in two parts: a Ground Lease from UT to Central Health, and a corresponding Sublease from Central Health to Seton. This structure was necessary to allow Seton to build the hospital on UT property, and to also ensure that Seton will use it to maintain safety net services for Travis County.

"Back in 2011, Senator Kirk Watson proposed some truly transformational initiatives with his 10 Goals in 10 Years. When we asked the voters to approve Proposition 1 in 2012 to generate new funds to achieve this transformation, we knew our success depended upon strong collaborations between Central Health and other partners. The partnership we've forged with The University of Texas, and the renewal and strengthening of our existing partnership with Seton, mean that Central Texas residents will have access to high-quality health care services for the foreseeable future-regardless of their income level or whether they have health insurance," Central Health President & CEO Patricia A. Young Brown said.

These agreements also require the Dell Medical School to directly assist Central Health in fulfilling its mission: to create and enhance access to health care for those who need it most. The faculty and residents of the Dell Medical School will provide Travis County with a supply of primary care physicians, and they will improve the availability of specialists in Travis County.

The leases are part of a series of agreements formalizing the partnership between Central Health, Seton, and their joint effort to create and support a Community Care Collaborative that will work with UT. These agreements require the Dell Medical School to directly assist Central Health in fulfilling its mission: to create and enhance access to health care for those who need it most.

The Seton Medical Center hospital is expected to open in 2017, one year after the first class at the Dell Medical School begin their studies.

Southeast Health & Wellness Center

Monday marked an incredibly special day for Central Health and all of the residents of Southeast Travis County - the new Southeast Health & Wellness Center began seeing patients!

With primary, specialty, and dental care provided by CommUnityCare, patients now have a brand new facility at their service, with dedicated staff to welcome and provide care for community members.

These services represent the first phase of development. The second phase will bring expanded primary and specialty care and additional wellness programs and activities, including nutrition, counseling, education, and more. Phase II is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2015. To learn more about the project, visit our website.

Community Art Project
If you recall, several months ago we held a community photo contest to capture ideas for the art installations in the SEH&WC. We're happy to report the installation is almost completed, featuring numerous images inspired by the people and places in the Southeast community. This was truly an effort led by the community, and we're extremely proud to feature this art in our new facility.

Meet the Boss

Last but certainly not least, meet the man running the Southeast Health & Wellness Center, CommUnityCare Senior Practice Administrator Isaac Pozos. Isaac has 25 combined years of experience in Business Management, Health Care Administration, and Social Services fields.

While with CommUnityCare, Isaac has served in leadership positions at the William Cannon, East Austin, Oak Hill, Family Wellness and Children's Wellness Health Centers.

Isaac is an Austin native and grew up in East Austin. He received his Bachelors of Business Administration from Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State). Isaac currently lives with his wife and two teen-aged sons in Southeast Austin, the community he serves.
