Many property owners want an
oasis in their backyard, but rarely will you find one that achieves this lofty goal like the recent Potomac poolscape project on which Outdoor Illumination was a design partner. Lila Fendrick, noted landscape architect
, designed the project with the idea of creating an "outdoor destination."
The expansive site features a series of wading pools, water cascades, fish ponds, a stone bridge and a heated spa, all of which were built using Western Maryland stone and a Mountain Valley Sandstone brought in from Utah. Serra Stone and Cangelosi Masonry were the stone and tile contractors on the project.
Our own Barbara Kulp, LEED AP B/D + C, designed the custom lighting plan that features a variety of lights used to create a "vacation sensation" for the owners to enjoy.
Did the project meet the owners' expectations? Here's what they had to say: "We are thrilled with the Shangri-La retreat created for us next door. Lila Fendrick and Anne Decker designed beautiful spaces and gardens for us to enjoy. The waterfalls, spa and fish pond provide all the pleasure that Lila intended with her design. There are secret gardens where you can curl up with a good book while listening to the waterfalls; there are lovely spots to enjoy a meal with friends alfresco, and of course, the pool, waterfall, and spa to enjoy under the stars. Outdoor Illumination did a marvelous job designing lighting to enhance the beauty of our gardens and establish the perfect setting for enjoying our property. It's subtle and inviting in quiet places and provides a dramatic backdrop in others."
