Open House Chicago Visits Saint Clement

Saint Clement was honored to be open to the public October 19 as an Open House Chicago site hosted by the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

More than 400 visitors took a tour of our unique and beautiful sacred space and many volunteers elaborated on Saint Clement's history such as the Tree of Life painting, a replica of the twelfth-century mosaic in the apse of Clemente in Rome.

This annual event is held over two days each fall. This year the free public festival offered behind-the-scenes access to 150 buildings across Chicago.

Everyone had a lovely time exploring the church's geometric designs, interlaced medallions and rose windows.

Children's Offering: Pray. Serve. Give.

One of the greatest lessons we can impart upon our children is that of embracing a life of stewardship -- showing gratitude for the gifts given to us by God, and joyful sharing of these gifts with others. Our Children's Stewardship Offering Program is one way to help teach this lesson to our parish children. The children's offering envelopes include a weekly home activity where the children write how they've given time to Jesus in prayer, service, and giving during the week. These envelopes are then brought to Mass and placed in the offering baskets. Here are some of the ways our parish children....

Pray: by going to Mass, in school, before meals and bed, for those who are sick and for family.

Serve: by helping my reading buddy with her art project, by picking up litter, by setting up for Fall Fest, by being a good listener and helping my teacher.

Give: kindness to my teacher, by participating in a 5K walk for cancer, toys to Salvation Army.

The money shared through the Children's Offering goes directly to our fund for the homeless. Loose dollars in the collection basket do not go toward the Homeless Fund -- only those placed in the children's envelopes. Envelopes are available at the back of the church and chapel. Questions? Contact Heather Kracik or Mary DuQuaine.

Tickets Available for Friday, November 7 @ noon

The First Friday Club of Chicago welcomes Nancy Hughes Moyer, CEO, Volunteers of America-Illinois (VOA) on November 7 who will address the topi, "American Military Veterans -- from the Privilege of Serving to the Struggle of Surviving."

The VOA is the first human service organization to partner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to confront the growing problem of homelessness amongst Veterans, and works to develop solutions to challenges facing Vets from the Vietnam era through present day conflicts in the Middle East. She will offer unfiltered analysis of risk factors that create such instability for some of our returning men and women, and offer a challenging but hopeful prognosis for bringing stability back to their lives and help them to achieve their full potential. During the lunch, U.S. Veterans will be honored. Consider inviting a Veteran.

If you're interested in attending, please register by Tuesday, November 4 by contacting parishioner Paul Gillespie at (773) 612-4408.
