Stories of Stewards
As part of our ongoing engagement process, we have come to realize the importance of parishioners sharing their personal stories of how they have connected with Saint Clement as an important factor in their lives. As a feature twice a month, we share the stories and reflections of our engaged parishioners who are living a stewardship life of prayer, service, and giving. This week we hear from Brian and Nancy Mattorano.
"We first started attending Saint Clement Parish when our son was six months old, and we were looking for a parish that we could grow with as a family. On our first visit, we were struck with how family friendly they were at the Sunday 9:30 a.m. chapel Mass. For the first time in a long time, we felt comfortable, even with a squirming, loud baby. My husband and I have always been actively involved with our old parish, and stewardship is important to us. We want our children to grow up in a community where service to others is important and many opportunities are available.
I joined the Saint Clement Moms' group shortly after we started attending Mass. It is a wonderful and supportive environment. I met many moms who are still great friends today. I served on the Service Committee, through which I made dinners at the Lincoln Park Shelter and the Ronald McDonald House. I also had the pleasure of serving on the Faith and Family Committee this year. The committee hosted the Epiphany Retreat and the Lenten retreat which my children loved.
My husband is a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan. He was also excited to join the Faith in the Next Generation Core Team this year. Our children loved helping with the Jessie Project this Christmas, and my son loves making and delivering the homeless sandwiches on the third Friday of each month. My son also looks forward to the day he can be an altar server! We hope the small ways in which the children are included will lay the foundation for life-long service to others.
There is truly something for everyone at Saint Clement. We have met several wonderful families who have become good friends in our time at Saint Clement. We love the community, and we are so excited for our children to grow and develop in this parish. We feel privileged to help support the many ministries that are important to us through the Parish Pay program. Life gets busy, so it is convenient that we can just set up an automatic monthly donation. We know it helps the parish budget for all the wonderful programs it supports. Our donation goes toward supporting the great staff and keeping our parish beautiful."
