Annual Retreat Impacts Young Adult Community

The annual Young Adult Community Winter Retreat was held February 21-23 at St. Benedict's Abbey in Benet Lake, Wisconsin. More than 70 young adults spent the weekend listening to witness talks and engaging in small group discussion centering around this year's theme: "The glory of God is man fully alive." Participants also had the opportunity to attend eucharistic adoration with Fr. Ken and celebrate Mass with Fr. Rex. Other activities included a Taize prayer service, rosary, spiritual direction, confession, personal reflection time, and an evening social. First time retreatants and veterans alike had many positive things to say about the experience:

to God's work in her life.

"I was able to strengthen my faith and my relationship with God. As an RCIA candidate, this was a huge step for me to take but I'm glad I did. Now I know what things to focus on to live fully alive." -- Amanda Sumerix

"For me, this weekend was about encountering Christ through others and I leave inspired to live the life my Creator has imagined for me." -- Rachel Mathis

"The retreat was just what I needed to find inner peace and a sense of renewal. It was also an opportunity to build a deeper relationship with my faith community and develop new friendships. It was truly a blessing!"-- Daniel Laprea

"This was my first Saint Clement retreat and it was such a refreshing experience. It was energizing to be surrounded by so many young, passionate Catholics. We have so many vibrant community members with so many gifts and talents." -- Monserrat Miramontes

"The feeling I got as we were preparing to leave the abbey is the same feeling I got as I left high school, college, graduate school, or any other long-term intense experience with a group of people -- a small but penetrating sense of sadness because I was leaving a community where I felt strong, supported, and myself. The difference was that each of the other experiences took years to build to a point where the act of leaving impacted me like this, but this retreat took just a couple of days. It spoke to the power of the weekend, the conversations and talks, and the presence of Jesus we shared in Wisconsin." -- Dan McKelvey

"No matter how many times I have attended the Saint Clement Young Adult Winter Retreat, I walk away invigorated and full of hope -- and this year was no exception. I felt truly humbled by the example of God's love I witnessed throughout the weekend as I watched the retreat participants build new or strengthen old friendships, and grow together along the paths of their ever-changing faith journeys." -- Joanne Turner
