God Squad Serves Neighbors, Accepting New Members

The God Squad (Saint Clement's youth group) recently prepared and served a delicious lasagna meal for the guests at the Lincoln Park Community Shelter; these members are pictured above. A second group of teens played bingo with the residents of Sunrise Senior Living. God Squad members Jane Patti and Melania Hillery commented on the experience. Patti reflected, "This wonderful opportunity really changed my views on the less fortunate. I would definitely do it again." Hillery agreed and added, "It was such an incredible experience bringing smiles to their faces."

If you're an 8th grader or high school student looking to grow in faith and serve others while having fun with other teens, join us at God Squad. Our next meeting will be Sunday, December 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Fahey Center; please join us at the meeting or contact Lisa Friedlander to learn more information

H.U.G.S. Drive Benefits Many

Over the weekends of November 2-3 and 9-10, the parish held its annual H.U.G.S. for the Homeless collection, requesting Hats, Underwear, Gloves, and Socks from parishioners. Gently used coats were also collected. Each winter is especially hard for our homeless brothers and sisters, and area shelters never seem to have enough of these items. Here at Saint Clement, we give out dozens of hats and gloves each winter to the cold who come to our door. Parishioners generously remembered those who suffer from the cold, and donated a great number of items to the parish.

Several volunteers gathered together on Sunday, November 10 to sort through the items. Overall, we collected:

  • 83 hats
  • 78 pieces of underwear
  • 130 pairs of gloves
  • 280 pairs of socks
  • 12 gently used coats
  • Other miscellaneous pieces of clothing

What a great number these will serve! Most of the 2013 H.U.G.S. went to Our Lady of Mercy and to the Saint Vincent de Paul Center Homeless Outreach Luncheon for distribution. Some items will be given out from the parish office at Saint Clement and donated to local organizations. Thank you to all who contributed to this fall collection. We are incredibly grateful for your support as we gear up for the cold winter.

Pastoral Challenges to the Family in Context of Evangelization

Pope Francis has called for an Extraordinary Synod to address the topic, Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization that will take place in Rome in October of 2014. The Holy See has asked bishops to share information about the topic as widely as possible and to provide a way for those Catholics who wish to contribute their comments and input to do so.

The instructions and the survey can be found on the Chicago Archdiocesan website

All responses received in the Archdiocese of Chicago will be sent to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, DC, who will pass on all collected response from dioceses throughout the country to the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops in Rome.
