Changing Tides Brought Waves of Success: Anchor Ball 2013

Anchor Ball 2013 Over the past 22 years, the Anchor Ball has proven to be a true celebration of the Saint Clement community and this year's gala was certainly no exception. Parishioners and their guests braved the St. Patrick's Day weekend madness on March 16th and joined Fr. Ken at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel to support our entire Parish community.

The evening began with cocktails and conversation in the Atlantic Ballroom Foyer where guests were able to try their luck at Plinko, a game of chance and much-anticipated new addition to this year's event. In addition to Plinko, attendees also had the opportunity to purchase chances to win at Heads or Tails and the Live Auction Raffle, as well as visit the "Treasure for All" display and donate items directly from the staff's wish lists.

Anchor Ball 2013 After enjoying the company of each other and the passed hors d'oeuvres, the ballroom doors were opened and everyone surveyed the Favorite Things Silent Auction offerings and the always-popular Teacher Experiences. The formal program began when Terri Hemmert introduced Fr. Ken for his welcoming remarks and blessing over the evening. Dinner service began soon afterward and continued until the Live Auction Raffle winner took home the Cubs Skybox/Deuces and Diamonds Cabana Package!

Things really started to heat up when auctioneer David Goodman took to the stage for the Live Auction portion of the evening. Guests jumped at the opportunity to competitively bid on packages that included luxurious dinners, Saint Clement School perks, and once in a lifetime experiences with Saturday Night Live, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Vatican! In the middle of this flurry of fantastic packages was a chance to stretch our legs by playing a game of Heads or Tails. The winner went home with a new iPad Mini and $150 Visa Gift Card!

The generous spirit of the night continued as the ballroom lights dimmed and guests were entertained by the sights and sounds of this year's Paddle Raise video.

Thanks to the generosity of our Anchor Ball attendees, we far surpassed our budgeted goal of $260,000. Overall, Anchor Ball raised over $400,000 to be split equally between Saint Clement Church and School!

Anchor Ball 2013, AmyBoylePhotography.com The fun didn't stop there; this year's band, Hey Jimmy, entertained the guests with everyone's favorite cover songs until the clock struck midnight. The ballroom cleared out, but the party continued at Fr. Manny's Hollywood Lounge where attendees enjoyed signature drinks, late night food, and even more dance music courtesy of DJ3J.

Thank you to everyone who made this year's event so memorable! It was truly a wonderful evening that helped us to support the 78 men and women who support all of us every day at Saint Clement Parish!

First Graders Host Bake Sale, Proceeds Go to Sister Parish in El Salvador

Saint Clement School's first grade class truly got into the spirit of service during Lent this year by hosting a two-day bake sale. Set up in the cafeteria during lunch hours, the first graders (with help from their parents) provided TONS of baked goods, each for sale at 50 cents each.

In preparation for the bake sale, the students learned all about money, marketing and sales.
el salv 2013 They also learned about our sister parish, 22 de Abril in El Salvador. The proceeds from the bake sale directly benefited our sister school. During spring break, 37 parishioners visited 22 de Abril, and helped to set up a computer lab in the school, with desks, computers, and Internet connection. Kasey Chertack, a teacher in 1S, was on the trip and hand delivered the laptop purchased from the first graders' bake sale proceeds. In all, the students raised $879.17!

Congratulations to the entrepreneurial Class of 2020!

Feed Your Spirit! -- Campaign for Sunday Mass

Several parishes in our deanery have put their heads and resources together to promote Sunday Mass.

Year of Sunday Mass As part of an effort to celebrate the Archdiocesan "Year of Sunday Mass," we are seeking to invite more people to Mass and to better form those who are already participating in the liturgy.

Many parishes are offering particular programs and resources about the Mass, including Teaching Masses, preaching about the Mass, and guest speakers. All of these events (and parish Mass times) can be found on our shared website.

Additionally, we will be inviting people to "feed their spirit" at Mass through an ad campaign at the Fullerton "L" stop and on Red Line trains, and through special Feed Your Spirit business cards. These business cards can be picked up at your parish during the month of April, and can be shared with anyone you would like to invite to Mass or refer to our website.

Be sure to not only feed YOUR Spirit this Easter season, but to invite someone else to the Eucharistic table as well!
