Easter Letter from Our Pastor
"Why do you seek the living one among the dead?
He is not here, but he has been raised."
(The Gospel of Luke from the Lectionary for the Easter Vigil)
The Easter story asks a question--
where do we look for what will give us life?
Or as the angelic watchers of the empty tomb pointedly ask,
"Why do you seek the living one amongst the dead?"
We are always seeking. Easter asks us--
what...how...where...Who...do we seek?
We sometimes turn to things we mistake as a place of life;
to things or people or places that seem like the answer;
that we hope may bring us what we desire or need.
But we discover that they are empty of what we thought they promised.
The angels at the tomb make it pretty clear--where there is not Jesus, there is not life.
But we are the people who know where to look.
Anywhere there is healing, reconciliation, commitment, service, ever deepening relationships, greater communion, deepening holiness, wider service--look there!
Wherever self-giving, self-emptying love is--be there! This is where to look for life. And this is how to give life. This is where we find the Living One.
I pray that our seeking will lead us to an ever deeper relationship with God and with each other. I pray that our faith may deepen and our service to one another expand. I pray that gratitude will fill our hearts and motivate our giving for the good of others.
May Easter blessings find you and fill you and give you life.
In Christ, the One Who Has Been Raised,
Rev. Kenneth Simpson
