The Core Content Review of Family Medicine, a national home-study CME Program and ABFM Board Review Course, is seeking individuals to author questions and discussions for one of the most successful Home Study CME Programs in the country.  Core Content is developed by the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians.

  • Question format mirrors the ABFM Board exam and discussions are approximately 300 words.  Up-to-date reference material must be provided.
  • Authors must have good computer skills.  Editors will provide feedback.
  • Many Residency programs have their residents in conjunction with a faculty member write questions and this is often used to fulfill their scholarly activities.  Faculty may also claim CME credit for this activity.
  • Authors who provide material acceptable for publication will be included on the Author Page of the edition in which their material appears.
  • Core Content Review is a peer-reviewed publication and authors may include authorship on their CVs.
  • Compensation will be provided on a per question basis.

CORE is also looking for physicians to submit photographs

or interesting cases that you may see in your practice.

  • If you have taken a photograph where the patient could be clearly identified, you must obtain a release for publication signed by the patient or the patient's parent or guardian. Maine Vaccine Program

The Department of Health and Human Services has requested clarification from the Maine Vaccine Board regarding provision of vaccines to children who live outside of Maine and see a Maine provider for vaccinations. The Board has reviewed the statute, and we want to advise providers of the following:

  • The statute clearly states that the vaccines purchased for the Universal Childhood Immunization Program are available only to children who are residents of Maine.
  • The Federal "Vaccines for Children" (VFC) Program provides vaccines for children on Medicaid and is available to any child who has Medicaid regardless of the state of residence.

The Board recognizes the problem this raises for providers near our state borders, but we are bound by the language of the statute. We hope to rectify this with the next legislative session.

Improving Health Outcomes with Physician Leadership

The American Medical Association is looking for physicians with a demonstrated history of community-based leadership and activism on lifestyle policy issues. Health behaviors are associated with most chronic diseases.

Polices at the community level combined with clinical practice can prevent these diseases and/or lessen their severity and improve quality of life for patients. The AMA is recruiting for physicians to be Physicians as Community Health Advocates (PACHA) trainers in their respective communities.

There will be a half day training in Chicago on November 30. The AMA is covering travel expenses. To apply, complete the

COMMUNITY HEALTH ADVOCATE OCT 2012 application and email it by October 17 to Janet Williams at janet.williams@ama-assn.org or fax it to 312-464-5073.
