"Can Humble Côtes du Rhône Ever Be Sexy?"

This is the title of a recent article in the Wall Street Journal (click here) that caught our eye.  We thought it was interesting that several of the wines highlighted in the article are things we already sell, and thought, "Hey, here's the theme for our next tasting and offer"!

We will be pouring FOUR of these stand-out wines, including the Beaucastel this weekend (see the wines listed below)!

(and of course, we have an awesome Rhone selection, including 14 different amazing Chateauneuf-du-Pape values, believe it!)

Saturday Jan 17

3-5 p.m.

As always, no charge!

Wines Offered:

2012 JL Chave Selection Mon Coeur Côtes du Rhône - $20

The Chave name is linked to some of the greatest wines of the northern Rhône (Hermitage, St. Joseph). Fortunately, the Chaves also make accessibly priced wines such as this rich and powerful Syrah-Grenache blend from multiple vineyards in Côtes du Rhône.

2011 Famille Perrin Coudoulet de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône - $30

This wine from esteemed producer Château de Beaucastel delivers on its nickname, "baby Beaucastel." Made with grapes from a vineyard adjoining the estate's great Châteauneuf-du-Pape acreage, it's a terrifically savory red with bright acidity and complex aromas of spice and red fruit.  (p.s., the "classified" Beaucastel CDP sells for $120)

2013 Domaine d'Andézon Côtes du Rhône - $15

This Syrah-dominant blend from the Cave des Vignerons d'Estézargues cooperative was made especially for its importer, Eric Solomon, from the old-vine Andézon vineyard. It's  been a great value for YEARS!

2012 Château Pégau Cuvée "Maclura" - $21

From a great Chateauneuf producer, delicious blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault.  Cassis, blackberry, and spice.  "Maclura" is a type of Osage Orange tree. There are many of these trees on the Chateau grounds, inspiring the name of this outstanding, stand-out cuvée.

2012 Domaine de la Janasse Réserve - $17

"Drinking well past its humble price point, this 2012 exhibits notions of kirsch, blackberry, smoked meat, graphite and copious licorice nuances to go with a medium to full-bodied, pure and layered feel on the palate.  It shows the purity of the vintage, as well as the richness and texture that this estate is known for."  92pts WA
