New Finds Worth a Look

We are offering some fantastic values in Champagne.  This year we have trimmed our selections to things that offer great bang-for the buck.  These wines arrive in November, in time for holidays.  Pay special attention to the MOUTARD wines, especially the 2002 and 2007  "6 Cepages".   These are  specially-priced, and most will not be available in the store.
Please email or call in your order BY AUG 27.

CHAMPAGNE PIOLLOT "Cuvée de Reserve"  Brut - $42

A first for us this year.   From Aube, a blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier that is a great new find in grower Champagne, and a marvelous bargain.

FRANCIS BOULARD Millésimé 2006 Extra Brut- $69

50% chardonnay, 30% pinot noir and 20% pinot meunier;  Light gold.  High-pitched aromas of orange zest, pear and white flowers, with a dusty mineral overtone.  Sappy and pliant on the palate, with firming acidity giving shape and lift to the juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors.  Finishes on a spicy note, with impressive persistence and emphatic minerality.

LARMANDIER-BERNIER "Longitude" 1er Cru - $49

Best bargain from this producer.  Vertus fruit.  Smoky orchard and citrus fruits on the fragrant nose.  Smooth, palate-coating pear and melon flavors are lifted and sharpened by a note of Meyer lemon and pick up a toasty, leesy nuance with aeration.  A zesty mineral quality adds bite to the finish, which shows excellent clarity and chalky persistence.

MARIE-COURTIN "Résonance" - $45

100% Pinot Noir.  Pale onion skin color.  Pungent aromas of blood orange, peach pit, fresh herbs and rose, with an undercurrent of smoky minerals.  Smooth, palate-staining red berry and citrus pith flavors put on weight with air and show impressive clarity and mineral spine.  Picks up anise and spicecake qualities on the long, chewy finish.  This concentrated, energetic Champagne will be extremely flexible at the table.

MOUTARD "Grande Cuvée" - $35

Return of this great Champagne value at an even lower price.   100% Pinot Noir.   "Ripe pit fruits, orange and fresh bread on the highly perfumed nose.  Fleshy, round and smooth, offering ripe pear and nectarine flavors and a refreshing jolt of bitter citrus pith.  A subtle honeysuckle quality comes up on the finish, which clings with very good tenacity and spiciness".
also:
1/2 BOTTLES - $20
MAGNUMS - $69

MOUTARD "Rose' Cuvaison" - $38

Fruity pink Champagne with a lovely salmon tint.  So Perfect on a holiday (or any other) table.

MOUTARD "6 Cepages" 2007 - $50

Very excited about this one.  The 6:  Arbane,  Petit  Meslier,  Pinot  Blanc,  Chardonnay,  Pinot  Noir  et  Pinot  Meunier.   "Light yellow-gold.  Assertive aromas of peach nectar, tangerine and honey, along with a leesy undertone.  Smooth and open-knit, offering plush nectarine and orange marmalade flavors that pick up a smoky nuance with air.  Closes smooth, broad and long, leaving a honeyed pit fruit note behind.  This fleshy, powerful Champagne will show its best at the table, alongside rich, buttery food."

MOUTARD Brut Millésimé 2002 - $50

Powerful, concentrated, single vintage, longer aging on its lees for complexity and longevity.   Chardonnay/Pinot blend  with  rich  brioche  aromas  on  the  nose  and  a  fine structured palate.
