WHITES/ROSE
2012 CH. PAULIN ENTRE-DEUX-MERS - $11.99
A new find for us in a Bordeaux blanc (Sauvignon/Semillion blend), whose quality 100% belies the mosest price. Peaches, apricot, life :)
2011 LAFAGE COTE EST - $11.99
From Catalan. Interesting bland of 100-year-old Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and Marsanne, aged on its lees in stainless steel. "stunning perfume of dried apricots, honeyed citrus and white flowers, followed by a crisp, elegant, slightly more textured, medium-bodied white with wonderful purity, freshness and length. Dazzling and remarkably inexpensive" (Robert Parker)
2012 ERIC TEXIER CDR BLANC - $16.99
This Rhone white is 90% Clairette grape. Elegant, with a nose of honey and nuts. Supple and open-knit, with a refreshingly juicy quality and a hint of bitter. Finishes smooth and subtly spicy, leaving pit fruit and pear skin notes behind. Great "alternative" white.
2013 VON BUHL PINOT NOIR ROSE' - $19.99
We fell in love with this last year... from the Pfalz in Germany, where Pinot Noir is called
Spatburgunder. Floral, pretty, bone dry. Lovely color rose'. Must try!
2013 COL DE LAIROLE ROSE' - $11.99
A direct import, here is a "rose' de saignee" at a ridiculous price! 65% Syrah and the rest Grenache. Summer lives (along with hail storms and wild weather).
SANT'ELENA PINOT GRIGIO "KLODIC" - $14.99
"Real-deal" Pinot Grigio from Friuli, Italy. This wine sees some skin contact, and has a beautiful slight "copper" tint. Not your "generic-tropical-fruit-boring" PG, it has structure, roses and crushed flowers, and rich and expansive depth and finish.
WA90, Normally sells for over $20. So good, a hold-over from last list
2012 FLORA SPRINGS NAPA CHARDONNAY - $16.99 (Reg. $25!!)
Stunning Chardonnay deal from a great winery, normally $25. (about $15 by the case!), you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal. Lush aromas of peach, pear and apple with hints of spice. Just a little oak influence, crisp acidity is balanced by an underlying creaminess, creating a full, rich wine. Hold-over from last list
2012 MOSER "PER DUE" GRUNER VELTLINER - $16.99
Met the Austrian winemaker (very small estate) and was impressed. "Per due" means "for 2", but this is so tasty that you will want to drink the whole bottle yourself. Single-vineyard fruit. Gruner is a PERFECT summer white.
2011 DR. LOOSEN "RED SLATE" DRY RIESLING - $17.99
Back by popular demand, after we tasted it recently and sold out. Perfect DRY Riesling here, so versatile for your summer fare. You really should try it, it is addictive.
2012 AIA VECCIA VERMENTINO - $14.99
Another Italian favorite, this time aversion from the Tuscan coast. Beautiful fruit, some structure. It would pair so wonderfully with mussels with garlic and fennel.
2007 H. LUN "SANDBICHLER" GEWURZTRAMINER - $16.99
From the Alto-Adige, this is similar in quality to Alsatian Gewurztraminers that are 2x more expensive. It has bottle-age, richness, color, quite dry (14% alcohol). Superb and complex, this is a steal and will remind you of $30 Alsace Gewurz in quality.
2010 ZACA MESA SANTA YNEZ CHARDONNAY - $14.99 (Reg. $18)
Great bargain. Estate fruit from a great winery in Santa Ynez Valley. Nice blend of citrus zest with a trace of minteral/stone, and a nice buttery smooth finish. "La Crema Beater".
IL FOLLO D.O.C. PROSECCO - $15.99
Our new "house Prosecco", it comes in a gorgeous bottle for your table, and alsi is 100% Glera from the esteemed Valdobbiadenne area where the best come from.
REDS
2011 ZUAZO GASTON VENDIMIA SELECCIONADA - $12.99
Rioja / Tempranillo. Deep red, almost purple colour. Perfectly blends fruity aromas (plums, blueberries) and varietal ones (liquorice) with a subtle hint of wood for aromatic complexity. In the mouth, it is very well structured and then becomes softer, with a lasting delicate finish. This wine is ready to enjoy now and will also mature very nicely in the bottle.
2010 "LES FLOROYS" MARSANNAY - $19.99
The only Burgundy that makes this list, we have a couple cases of this very lovely Pinot Noir value from the Marsanney appellation. Get it while you can, at this price, won't last.
2011 FABRE MONTMAYOU CABERNET SAVIGNON - $16.99
From Patagonia, Argentina, great Cab here with personality, and not over-done Steven Tanzer gave it a high score, and says, "Plum, currant, mocha and tobacco leaf on the nose, along with hints of stewed fruits and exotic flowers. Sweet and fine-grained, showing lovely lift and harmonious framing acidity to the currant, plum and mocha flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and lingering notes of blackberry and licorice. Classy juice!"
2011 THE MAGICIAN LOT 11 - $14.99
If you want a "red blend", this is THE ONE. Ripe black cherries mingle with traditional dark red fruits, smoky oak and exquisite spices. A "blending masterpiece" from California that can be enjoyed with any kind of BBQ. And it has a GREAT label, too!
2012 CA' MOMI "ROSSO DI NAPA" - $13.99
A new find that will amaze you how rich and good it is for the price (think $20+). We do not expect this to last long, once it is discovered; the winery sells it for $18. Dee-lish, and amazing amazing value for your BBQ's!
2010 MERCEDES EGUREN CABERNET SAUVIGNON - $12.99
Yes... this is indeed nicely-evolved Cabernet from Spain. "Inky purple. Spicy cherry and dark berry aromas are deepened by notes of bitter chocolate, vanilla and espresso. Peppery, sharply focused cherry and blackberry flavors show a slight bitterness but possess good energy. Finishes with a strong cherry skin quality and good length."
88 Points International Wine Cellar
2011/12 LAFAGE "TESSALAE" OLD VINES GSM - $15.99
"The 2011 Tessellae Old Vines Cotes du Roussillon is an intriguing blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Grenache Gris, a rare white grape. It was aged 12 months in concrete tanks prior to being bottled unfiltered. It boasts an expansive, intense, complex bouquet of garrigue, strawberries and black cherries intermixed with a hint of spring flowers, a velvety texture and a voluptuous mouthfeel. This beautiful, soft, round, seductive red should drink well for 4-5 years (2012-2017)."
93 Points The Wine Advocate
2009 ROW ELEVEN "VINAS 3" PINOT NOIR - $16.99
Luscious wine, and maybe the best Pinot deal in the store. Smooth, dark, cherry pie, with fruit from 3 distinct areas (Monterey, Santa Barbara and Sonoma), and three distinct clones (Pommard, Dijon and Martini). As long as the vintage holds (2009!) it is a keeper on this list, a "no-brainer".
2008 BESLLUM MONTSAINT - $17.99 Priorat quality. The 2008 Besllum is composed of 45% Garnacha, 45% Carinena, and 10% Syrah aged for 16 months in new French oak. Also deeply colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of wood smoke, exotic spices, incense, lavender, blueberry, and black cherry. In the glass it displays opulence, loads of sweet fruit, and outstanding volume." 93 points, Wine Advocate. 2012 CALDARA PINOT NERO - $17.99 This has become our best-selling Pinot Noir in the store... for a reason. A unique expression of the grape from the Alto-Adige in cool northern Italy. Strawberries, rose-hip tea. Ample, soft, silky. A keeper here on the list 2010 PIEVE DEI MONACI SYRAH - $19.99 A discovery from Meremma (coastal Tuscany), yes, 100% Syrah! This is an outstanding wine, with finesse, balance. It has some density, tons of plummy fruit and nice earth.
2011 GARNACHA CENTENARIA - $16.99 91 points Wine Spectator: "[$21 list] This fleshy red delivers a rich core of blackberry and blueberry compote, accented by toasty vanilla, sweet licorice and cinnamon spice. Well-integrated tannins give this backbone. A bold, modern style. Drink now through 2017.
