Dear

"MAY DAY, MAY DAY!"

New.  Get here quick...

2010 "Les Floroys" Marsannay - $19.99

Our best value find in tasty Burgundy of late, and it is tough to find 2010 vintage still, especially < $20.   Marsannay is the most northern appellation of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. This is 100% Pinot Noir grown on chalky and clay soils and displays a morello cherry, strawberry and black current a meaty finish. This wine is nice for those who like some substance to their Pinot Noir but not have them overpower the food.  LIMITED

2011 Mas de Daumas Gassac Blanc
- $27 (reg $53)  Only 11 bottles available

My favorite Languedoc wine (I still enjoy the 1982 red).  At a recent dinner, the white actually eclipsed the more famous red.  This top drawer southern French white combines an eclectic range of grape varieties - though without one single variety dominating. Viognier, Chardonnay, Petit Manseng, Chenin Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Petite Arvine are some of the stars, each vinified separately and assembled early in the year after the vintage. Two themes run through this wine - the first is one of intense aromatics, with concentration and richness on the palate. The second revolves around a lovely freshness, giving the wine great backbone and precision.

2005 Plaisance "Cuvée Alix" Bordeaux Supérieur- $24.99

2005!  Robert Parker scores it 90 points and says:

"This cuvee is made in consultation with Michel Rolland and the Magrez winemaker, Jean Cordeau. The sensational 2005 is the finest Plaisance ever made. Broad, savory, black currant and cherry flavors intermixed with subtle notes of roasted herbs, licorice, and spice box are copious as well as intense. This is a round, generous, opulent effort from a low level pedigree that transcends its category by a considerable margin. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."

Steve Tanzer scores it 89 points:

"Red-ruby. Distinctly wild aromas of game, mocha and dark chocolate. Then surprisingly sexy and intense in the mouth, with good cut and plenty of personality, albeit in a gamey style. Finishes with firm tannins and good length. Should offer early appeal."

2011 J. Palacios "Petalos" - $21.99

One of our favorite Spanish reds every year, the 2011 no exception.  Made from Mencia grape and grown in the region of Bierzo, the wine is very aromatic and flowery (violets), almost heady, with clear notes of blueberries and licorice. The oak is perfectly integrated, almost imperceptible, save for a touch of spice. It has a medium body, with a thick silky texture, is very tasty, with some acidic strawberry flavors.  92pts RP

2012 Le Bois Jacou Gamay - $14.99

Top-notch Gamay, not from Beaujolais, but from the Loire.  Outstanding value, especially on sale at this price, and a PERFECT summer red for you before dinner, during dinner, or après -dinner with cheese (doesn't everyone do that??)
Aroma is wild and intense with notes of roasted meat, exotic flowers and black ground pepper. On the palate, the wine is focused yet exhilarating with a beautiful melody of red fruit - strawberry, pomegranate and raspberry. If you are a fan of Pinot Noir or other cool-climate varieties, do not miss out on this unique, small production Loire Valley Gamay.

Redstone Meadery "Traditional" Mountain Honey Wine - $19.99

We're strechin' out.  A gold-medal-winning Colorado mead produced in Boulder.  Pure honey, no fruit, herbs or spices added.  Made with wildflower and orange blossom honeys, some yeast and water not much else.  And it comes in a cool blue glass re-sealable bottle.   NOW we're talkin' summer!
