Dear

"Masters of the Universe"
(well, of Denver, anyway...)

Do you remember Denver restaurants, Mel's and Dudleys?  Tortoise Creek wines are the project of long-time Denver restauranteur Mel Master.  Mel and his son Charlie have developed 2 lines of wine:  one in California, the other in SW France (not the universe, but the globe!).  They all represent very good values, and City Wine has carried them since the beginning.

This Saturday's tasting will feature a "face-off" between France and California reds among these wines.

Come vote!

Saturday, January 24

2-4pm

Charlie Master

Come meet and talk to the ever-affable Charlie, who will taste us on two new wines from France:   "Le CharMel" (guess who this is named after!) from the Costieres de Nimes (south of Rhone), and "EXEM" from Lestiac-sur-Garonne in Bordeaux.

And from Lodi, CA, we have The "Cherokee" Cabernet and the "Chelonian" Zinfandel.

All wines will be priced at the tasting at only $10.99

(a case of them comes in at under $10!)

NOW HERE'S A FIND!

NV Domaine Petit Sonnailler
Vin de Pays de Méditerranée, France
$10 (reg $15)

The Becky Wasserman portfolio is mostly known for Burgundy wines, but here is a very unique lower-priced bargain.   Petit Sonnailler is a spectacular property situated in the Salon-de-Provence area of southern France. The Château dates back to the 10th century and sources their grapes 2 hectare of limestone soils. As is typical for the Provence region, the vines grow among fields of lavender, pine trees, and fresh thyme, all of which influence the aromatic complexity of these wines.

This red blend is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet, and a grape called "Caladoc", which is a grafting of Malbec and Grenache.  We at City Wine had never heard of this grape!   This is "real wine".  It has personality, uniqueness, and we think it is very cool and a tremendous bargain.   MOVE FAST.

We recommend buying by the case ($9)
