You know that we are one of the few local wine merchants who carry a great selection of Burgundy (silly us). Not to mention we do free tastings, even of Burgundy wines. City Wine is basically a charity, and you are the benefactor.

This week we wanted to focus on what we feel is the best part of Burgundy for value-- the Côte Chalonnaise. This lesser-known part of Burgundy includes the appellations of Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry and Montagny, and we will feature and taste wines from these regions.

A.P. VILLAINE BOUZERON

We often feature wines from Villaine (who also manage Romanée-Conti). This wine is made from the "other white grape of Burgundy", Aligoté. It features a mineral-lemon quality that is very unique. Have you ever tried Aligoté from Bouzeron?

FEUILLAT-JUILLOT MONTAGNY "Les Jardins"

1er CRU

We wrote about this earlier, calling it our "white Burgundy buy of the year". Now you get a chance to taste it. "Light green. Brilliant nose. Very fresh, vivid chardonnay fruit. Mouth is super concentrated with great intensity of very pure, hi-toned chardonnay varietal fruit. Great acidity and lift. A rather stunning, unoaked white burgundy."

FAIVELEY MERCUREY "La Framboisière"

Single vineyard monopole fruit from vineyards among the 1er Cru's. Faiveley has great holdings in this area. We will have 2 other of their bottlings available, also, and all represent great values in Burgundy.

THENARD GIVRY "Clos Saint-Pierre"

1er CRU

One of the best bargains in the store, and it will be under $25! Our bottling is from the superb 2009 vintage. Bang-fo-da-buck, yagots!
