CITY BEER

Dear

OK, it's official.  For this week, we are changing our name to "CITY BEER".  Craft beer is all the rage, and Colorado has some of the best in the nation.  Among them, our friends from Fort Collins-based Funkwerks, who do great "farmhouse" or  "Saison-styled" brews.  (See the above website link to learn more about the brewery, and about the "Saison" style).

Funkwerks will be pouring a few at the store, including the just-released "Provincial".  They will also bring Cozy Cow cheddar (from Windsor, CO), made with their ales, yum!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28
3-5 pm
NO CHARGE

A free Funkwerks tasting glass to the first 6 people who buy the trio of Ales

SAISON BELGIAN STYLE ALE (6.8% ABV)

This tawny, orange-hued beer pours with a rocky white head. Aromas are of passion fruit, tangerine, and black pepper. Flavors cascade of orange, lemon verbena, ginger and pepper before finishing with a dry, lingering bitterness that awaits another sip. Serve at 50 degrees in a tulip glass.

Our flagship Saison was awarded a silver medal in 2011 and a gold medal in 2012 at the Great American Beer Festival for the French- and Belgian-Style Saison category.

Suggested Pairing
Pairs well with a soft, creamy ripened cows milk cheese.

TROPIC KING IMPERIAL SAISON ALE (8% ABV)
Bursting with aromas of passion fruit, mango, and peach, our Imperial Saison is brewed using New Zealand Rakau hops. Combined with notes of pepper and ginger produced by our house yeast strain, Tropic King has a unique flavor that has gained it a loyal following. Serve at 50 degrees in a tulip glass.  Brave the curse.

Suggested Pairing
Pairs well with mango chutney pork chops.

PROVINCIAL BELGIAN STYLE ALE (5.6% ABV)
Inspired by the sessionable German Berliner Weisse, we followed tradition and allowed the wort to mature overnight with lactobacillus. The next day it was boiled and transferred to the fermentor where we added a Belgian wheat yeast strain famous for fruity flavors and a dry finish. The result is a highly carbonated and refreshingly tart summer beer with a citrusy pineapple aroma. These aromas carry through in to the flavor leading to a dry but tart finish. This unfiltered ale is best consumed fresh- it will not continue to sour with age and is not recommended for cellaring.

Suggested Pairing
Pairs well with Fresh Fish Ceviche.
