Dear
What reds to drink during summer? Well, wines made from the Gamay grape are a good place to start, served cool. Arguably, the very best Gamays come from Beaujolais. Beyond the "village wines"and way beyond "nouveau", there are 7 "crus" in Beaujolais, that have specific terroir-driven wines of note. My personal favorites come from Moulin-a-Vent, Cotes-de-Brouilly, and Morgon, with Morgon being the top of the list.
Morgon is a focal point for natural wine-making. The wines are deeply-colored, weighty, complex, and among the richest of the crus. They can take on a Burgundian character of silky texture with some aging. There is a particular hillside, known as Côte du Py, in the center of Morgon that produces the most powerful examples.
This is probably the first time anyone in Denver has done a wine tasting solely focused on the Cru Beaujolais from Morgon. We will open and taste several fantastic examples, 2 come from winemakers known as "the gang of 4".
