Speaking of dogs, Max the Burghound is back (Kirk's Beagle, who can smell Burgundy terroir or a microscopic morsel of food 2 miles away). Max has announced via very loud barking that "City Wine now has the best selection of Burgundy in the city!", including some older vintages and magnums. 2010 QUINTA DE AZEVEDO VINHO VERDE (PORTUGAL) $11.99
Nothing says "summer" quite like a crisp, low-alcohol Vinho Verde. This is a special "single-vineyard" bottling, and it is one of the better ones we've tasted this year. Delicious, tongue-tingling floral, lemon-zest and anise-spiked fruit.
AFFINITY: Perfect for Picnics and for Thirst-Quenching!

2009 FIRST PRESS CHARDONNAY (NAPA) $12.99
Melon & pineapple fruits, with whiffs of vanilla and butterscotch. Attractive, crowd-pleasing luscious Chardonnay. Elegant looking bottle. Great price for this quality.
AFFINITY: Grilled Salmon steamed with red peppers, thyme and Bermuda onions

2011 DIEGO MURILLO TORRONTES (PATAGONIA) $11.99
From Patagonia (not Mendoza), the style here is NOT sweet. This is a very dry Torrontes but it still has the nice floral, orange-blossom aromas and nice mouth-feel. Another great summer white.

2011 CHEVALIER PINOT NOIR ROSE' (LOIRE) $14.99
A Pinot Noir Rose' from a 4'th generation vigneron in the Loire! Strawberry/watermelon rind fruit and a nice weight on the palate. One of our favs... great value here. We have the fresh, minerally 2011, of course.
AFFINITY: Perfect before dinner and very versatile

 2010 SAN SILVESTRO FAVORITA (ITALY) $11.99
You say tomato I say tomatah; you say favorito, I say favoritah. Folks, this varietal ("favorita") comes from the famous Langhe in Piedmont, Italy, and is closely related to Ligurian Pigato and Vermentino. Pear, mineral, notes of sea salt. Perfect.
AFFINITY: Risotto / Fishies (serve well-chilled)

200 8 VINI MENHIR CINQUEPASSI $12.99 (PUGLIA) Hand crafted from 100% old vine Negroamaro from a vineyard a mere "five steps" (Cinquepassi) from the Adriaic Sea, where deep red soil on layers of calcareous rock produces a hearty red with great freshness and minerality. Negroamaro is one of the great varietals from southern Italy's wine region, Puglia, and makes a perfect everyday red.
AFFINITY: Burgers & Pastas (simple fare)

2008 BATASIOLO BARBERA D'ALBA (ITALY) $13.99
Modern-style Barbera with vibrant color and scents of cedar, vanilla and black cherry. Dried spices and vanilla buttress crisp cherry flavors on the palate, ending long. Quite elegant, and nicely evolved (2008 vintage).
AFFINITY: Duck Breast or Linguini with Veal Bolognese

2010 XANDER ZINFANDEL $14.99
This was meant to be a $30 Zin, and was made by the folks at Michael David winery (only 500 cases were made). Old vines. Big but but tamed briary blackberry jam w/ molasses and pepper. Awesome Zin at the price.
AFFINITY: Pizzas or marinated beef (grilled and sliced thin)

2009 GRAO VASCO (PORTUGAL) $10.99
Plum and black cherry, with some balsamic notes. On the palate it is a wine of great elegance and smoothness, with good fresh acidity, smooth and rounded tannins. BEST BEST BUY!!
AFFINITY: The consummate "BBQ red"??

2010 PROTOCOLO (SPAIN) $10.99
Made from 100% Tempranillo, this fruit-forward red table wine from Spain is medium-bodied with flavors of black cherry with undertones of vanilla and oak. Awesome bargain and very consistent quality.
