CHATEAUNEUF: "OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS"

Here's an offering for you... We had a chance to pre-purchase some wines from the wonderful Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhone.   These are some of our favorite wines, great for summer grilling when you want something "special", and also great for the cellar.  Some of you were astute to order our 2010 offerings at great pricing.  Most of them are now here.   In addition to the 2010's we have 3 different outstanding vintages from great producer Lucien Barrot:  2007, 2009 and 2010. Very limited Quantities.

2010 Cuvee du Vatican

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape boasts an opaque, deep purple color as well as a stunning bouquet of scorched earth, tobacco leaf, black currants, kirsch and lavender. The impressive aromatic and flavor spectrum is nicely complemented by a long, rich, well-balanced finish with good freshness, precision and zesty acids. This cuvee should drink well for 15 or more years.  (10/ 2011)

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright purple. Powerful aromas of black and blue fruits, cola and allspice. Deeply pitched blackberry and blueberry flavors are impressively concentrated but are carrying no excess fat. Finishes sweet and intense, with the blackberry and spice notes repeating. I suspect that this seductive wine will be enjoyable soon after bottling.  (1/ 2012)
ONLY $34.99

2010 Domaine Lafond
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A potentially great wine in the making, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Roc-Epine (made from an identical blend) possesses awesome concentration as well as a gorgeous nose of roasted Provencal herbs, lavender, blueberries, blackberries and cassis. With good acidity, sweet, well-integrated tannins and super concentration, it will be drinkable in 2-3 years, and should evolve for 15+ years thereafter.

Super wines emerge from Domaine Lafond, which remains under the radar for many consumers despite the fact that the American importer is one of the leading specialists of the southern Rhone.
 $39.99 (here in 2 weeks)
