Macomb County Experiences Another Year of Job Growth
The most recent jobs update from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Macomb County has gained more than 10,000 jobs in the past three months and nearly 25,000 in the last year.  "The county has emerged as a leader in advanced manufacturing technology. Sophisticated new industries in aerospace, life science, information technology, defense and homeland security have grown alongside Macomb's traditional manufacturing businesses," said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. This marks seven continuous years of job growth in Macomb County.

Run Drugs Out of Town
Families Against Narcotics is holding its 5K Walk/Run and 10K Run on Saturday, July 16 at Fraser High School. The Run/Walk is the single largest fundraiser for FAN and helps to sustain their efforts throughout the year. All proceeds benefit their continuing efforts to educate communities throughout Michigan on the epidemic of prescription painkiller addiction and its potential to lead some to heroin use.  Click  here for information and to register.

Senior Polar Bear Moves to Detroit Zoo
A 29-year-old female polar bear named Tundra arrived at the Detroit Zoo's Arctic Ring of Life. She was relocated recently from the Indianapolis Zoo, which is permanently closing its polar bear exhibit.  With an average life span of 15-18 years in the wild and 21-24 years in zoos, Tundra is one of the oldest polar bears in captivity.  Tundra joins two other polar bears at the Arctic Ring of Life.  The facility also houses three arctic foxes and five seals.
