Back on Track Celebrates Ribbon Cutting

ATS Educational Consulting Services held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of their newest "Back on Track" office at 18901 15 Mile in Clinton Township on Thursday, April 21. Back on Track provides academic, vocational and online education learning programs throughout Michigan that strengthens school districts, communities and families.  A free laptop was auctioned off after the ribbon cutting.  Clinton Township Trustee Ken Pearl and Township Clerk Kim Meltzer attended the event.


Freedom Boat Club Opens in Harrison Twp.

Freedom Boat Club celebrated its new location at Hideaway Harbor Marina, 36290 Jefferson in Harrison Township, with an official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, May 1.  The event featured a deck party with free boat rides, live music, barbecue and soft drinks and more.  Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, State Representative Anthony Forlini and Township Supervisor Ken Verkest were present at the ceremony.

Mount Clemens Plans City Sneakers Kickoff Event
The Mount Clemens City Sneakers running/walking club is kicking off on Tuesday, May 24.  The event starts at Three Blind Mice at 5:45 pm, with the walkers and runners starting a two or four mile loop at 6 pm.  There will be prizes, including raffles for New Balance running shoes and City Sneakers Running Club t-shirts, as well as coupons for discounts at the New Balance store. The mission of the club, created by the Macomb County Family YMCA, Mount Clemens DDA, Macomb County Health Department and the Macomb County Executive's Office, is to offer a non-competitive atmosphere for runners and walkers in downtown Mount Clemens.  There is no cost to join.  Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate in this free weekly event. Go to citysneakersclub.com for the weekly schedule of meet-up restaurants.  Afterward, the runners/walkers are welcome to stay to enjoy food, drink and good conversation.

All are invited to join Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals' new Get Moving Walking Club at The Mall at Partridge Creek.  Participants can walk on their own from 8 am-10 pm Monday-Saturday and 10 am-7 pm Sunday and record their totals with the mall's Customer Service Center. Markers are located on brick pavers throughout the mall. One lap around the mall equals one mile. On the third Monday of each month walkers can meet at the mall's Center Court at 9 am for a group walk.  On Oct. 24, the club will celebrate the first walking season with an event including giveaways provided by the mall, its retail partners and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals. The celebration will reward walkers in various categories, including most miles walked throughout the season.

WJR Hosts Boating Season Kick-Off
Join 760 WJR's Frank Beckman as he hosts his show live to kick off the Macomb Boating Season on Friday, May 27, 9 am-12 pm.  Visit with Frank and many Macomb County leaders at this annual event held at Brownies on the Lake, 24214 Jefferson in St Clair Shores.  Breakfast will be provided.

Warren's Greatest Garage Sale is Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30, 10 am-5 pm.  The event is located in the Warren City Square Parking Garage on Van Dyke, north of 12 Mile.  Vendor applications are still being accepted.  Click here for more information.  
 

Sprint and Splash at Metropark
The 5th Annual Sprint and Splash Festival of Races will be held on Sunday, June 5 at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Township. Sprint and Splash offers a variety of competitive events, as well as music, food, craft beer and a vendors area. There will be a 6-mile World Paddleboard Association sanctioned stand-up paddleboard (SUP) race, a duathlon (a 5K run and a 2-mile paddle with kayak or SUP), 5K Fun Run and Walk and a 2-mile recreational SUP race. The Sprint and Splash Beach Village is open throughout the day, giving participants and spectators the option to visit local vendors before or after their race. Additionally, all racers receive a complimentary breakfast and will have the option to purchase a variety of craft beer from Kuhnhenn Brewing Co., an event sponsor. Sprint and Splash is a fundraising event with the purpose of promoting and celebrating Lake St. Clair.  Click  here for more information.


Art Center Announces Mount Clemens Art Fair
The annual Mount Clemens Art Fair will be held on Macomb Place in downtown Mount Clemens on June 4-5.  Presented by the Anton Art Center, the fair includes more than 40 artists and vendors, community organizations, a full schedule of entertainment on two stages, free children's art activities and the DIA Away mobile interactive creative exploration space.  The Fair will award $1,000 in prizes to participating artists and will be open to the public from 11 am-8pm on June 4 and 11am-5pm on June 5. The Art Fair is free and open to the public.


Eastside Teen Outreach Looks for Help in Art Van Charity Challenge
Eastside Teen Outreach (ETO) is participating in the Art Van Charity Challenge, a fundraising campaign benefiting organizations supporting children, health and human services.  The top prize is $100,000, with second place receiving $50,000, third receiving $25,000 and fourth through tenth receiving Challenge grants.  ETO is a safe, accepting environment for students in 6th-12th grade to connect and interact with each other in positive ways and to connect with caring adult mentors. ETO provides friendship, emotional support and guidance for teens through positive adult role models and peers, with the mission of helping teens become mature, responsible, successful adults and to inspire them to reach their full potential.  Click here to learn more about ETO and to donate.
