Chamber Celebrates
ATHENA Nominees and Winner

Mashell Carissimi, CEO and owner of JMC Electrical, LLC, was the recipient of the Macomb Foundation's annual ATHENA Award. The award was announced at a luncheon on Friday, May 6 at Palazzo Grande in Shelby Township. The ATHENA award recognizes those who have achieved success in their profession while giving back to the community and helping women reach their leadership potential. Mashell has been involved with the National Association of Women in Construction, Detroit chapter, the National Association of Women Business Owner's EXCEL board and NAWBO's Young Entrepreneurs Academy program. She has also participated in a women's build for Habitat for Humanity.
All eight nominees received a piece of specially-made jewelry donated by My Sister's Jewelry. The ATHENA event also included vendor booths, a fashion show, a raffle for a $600+ custom-made pearl necklace with a diamond pendant, a silent auction for Coach items and door prizes. This year's event was sponsored by IBEW-NECA, Axalta Coating Systems, Beaumont Health, Consumers Energy, Davenport University, DTE Energy, First State Bank, General Dynamics Land Systems, General Motors, Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals, McLaren Macomb, St. John Providence Health System, UHY LLP and The Macomb Daily. Jazzercise Offers Free Classes in May
Jazzercise Mount Clemens is holding a promotion throughout the month of May for new customers. All classes, including yoga, are free. There are 30 classes to choose from. Babysitting is available Monday-Friday at set times. Jazzercize is located at 273 N. Groesbeck in Mount Clemens. Teachers and Advocates Wanted
Back on Track in Clinton Township has a variety of educational programs designed to meet the needs of students of all ages. My Virtual Academy needs middle school and secondary teachers in core academic subject areas of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Physical Education and Art (Performing Arts) for an online 6-12 grade school. Teachers with a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate are assigned 25-40 hours per week, depending on their certification.
Step Up Advocates are also needed to monitor and communicate progress to students in the Step Up program, an online credit completion program for students in grades 6-12. Advocates are assigned a maximum of 28 hours per week and can create their own schedule. A high school diploma is required, a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

YMCA Needs Help With Kids Run
  The YMCA needs 200+ volunteers for its Girls on the Run and STRIDE 5k Celebration on Sunday, May 22 at Lake St. Clair Metropark in Harrison Twp. Volunteers will help distribute medals, spray paint hair, guide 5000+ girls, boys and parents along the course and more. About 6000 runners and spectators are expected, so Oakland County schools will hold their event at 9 am and all Wayne and Macomb county schools will hold their event at 1 pm.
