Macomb County Chamber of Commerce's Military Affairs Committee representatives traveled to Washington, D.C. recently to advocate for the defense industry in Macomb County and Michigan, as well as to advocate for Selfridge Air National Guard Base

Kevin Chandler (Macomb Community College), Keith DeFever (Base Community Council) and Grace Shore attended 12 meetings that were set up with the Michigan Congressional delegation, a staff member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the State's lobbyist in D.C.  The group focused on three main points:
1) Secure enduring fighter mission at Selfridge
2) Grow defense in Michigan
3) Stress the capacity for growth at Selfridge

The information was well received and much needed.  There is a clear need for more communication to the Congressional delegation on military and defense affairs. A debriefing of the trip was conducted at Selfridge on Nov. 3 with General Vadnais, the Adjutant General of Michigan, along with members of the Military Affairs Committee.
