SAFE represents more than 900 of the industry's top aviation educators in 49 states and nine foreign countries, including the majority of Master Instructors and numerous General Aviation Awards winners in all four awards categories. SAFE developed and is now offering Regional Pilot Proficiency Projects across the U.S.

Shout Out!

Committees, more correctly the fine folks who serve on our committees, have been busy and I want to share with you what they are doing for all of us. The Membership Committee has recently inaugurated a Lifetime Membership option. Upgrading to a life membership is a great way to show support for SAFE. Thanks to those of you who have already made the change. The membership folks are also the ones behind the SAFE Ambassador Program. A special thanks goes out to JoAnn Hill for leading this effort. Are you participating in a local/regional aviation event? Contact JoAnn, request the ambassador kit, and help SAFE and the entire aviation community.

The Government Affairs Committee has also been very busy. After leading SAFE's effort in supporting the FAA's ATD Direct Rule, this group has been involved in revising the Instrument Flying Handbook, the Advanced Avionics Handbook, and the new edition of the Instrument Procedures Handbook, as well as drafting a response to an NPRM on Commercial Drones/UAV.

There are, of course, other committees - Marketing/Advertising/Events and Programs are just getting started. Then there are committees that have been around since the beginning - Awards, Audit, Finance, Governance, Mentoring, and Resource Center. All SAFE members are encouraged to consider serving on any of these committees. Contact Board Chair Donna Wilt at [email protected].

Elections 2015

Election season is here once again and we are looking for a few good candidates. Our normal election process involves the election of three candidates to fill director positions at the end of their three-year term. This year we have had two additional directors request early departures from the board, which means that there are five director positions that need filling.

The process begins with this initial announcement. Nomination is the second step. Members who would like to be considered as a candidate for director should complete an application form and send it with a two-page (maximum) resume to the Governance Committee for processing. The application form and additional details are available on the our website www.SAFEPilots.org The process continues as a slate of candidates is developed, each is introduced to the membership, and an online election is held.

SAFE Well Represented at Montana Aviation Conference

Several hundred pilots gathered in Missoula for the Montana Aviation Conference. SAFE members Sherry and Steve Rossiter, Jeanne MacPherson, Rich Stowell, and Mike Vivion were on hand. Collectively they provided five seminars and a luncheon keynote. MacPherson and Stowell are also SAFE Ambassadors.

Sun n' Fun 2015

SAFE Exhibit

Of course SAFE will be at Sun 'n Fun! We'll be at the same location as years past, NE-006, just north of the Sunset Grill. Stop in and visit with fellow members, discuss current industry news, and renew your membership. If you are attending the event for the entire week, please consider volunteering to spend a few hours "working the tent". It's a great way to meet SAFE members from across the country.

Forums

Are you presenting one of more forums this year? If so, SAFE will help market your presentation. Email SAFE board member Jack Vandeventer [email protected] your name, presentation title, date/time, location, and description of your forum. He'll take it from there. Please provide your information to Jack by April 5.

AirVenture 2015

SAFE participation at AirVenture is just part of our organization's efforts at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, every July. We hold our annual membership meeting, conduct an awards presentation, swear-in new board directors, and have an evening banquet all in one short, four-hour span. If you attend AirVenture and don't make it to SAFE's Thursday (July 23 this year) bash you've simply missed out. Folks who attend are never disappointed. The Wittman Regional Airport's Conference Room is the site for all the festivities. More details will be provided as we get closer to summer.

The SAFE exhibit booth is on the move! We are moving to Exhibit Hangar B, center aisle, booths 2093 and 2094. Hangar B is located west, across the road from the Theatre in the Woods. Exhibit hours are 9:00 - 5:00. Again we are seeking volunteers to staff the booth with us. Send an email to [email protected] to sign up.

Literally thousands of hours of instruction occur every year during AirVenture and many SAFE members are conducting that training. We would be happy to tell the world, well the aviation world anyway, about your forum. Again send an email SAFE board member Jack Vandeventer at [email protected]; provide him your name, presentation title, date/time, location, and a description of your forum. Please provide your information to Jack by July 6.
