SAFE's Liability Insurance Plan Moves to Starr Indemnity
| |
SAFE's industry-leading CFI Liability Insurance Plan will now be underwritten by Starr Indemnity and Liability Company. The administrator of the program will continue to be Starr Aviation along with the Aviation Insurance Resources Agency.
The Federal Insurance Company will no longer be the company for the policy as of renewal of your current policy. As required by State insurance regulations, 60 days prior to the current expiration of an individual's policy you will receive a notice from The Federal Insurance Company that your policy with them will not be renewed. This is called a "Non Renewal Notice". Aviation Insurance Resources will then send the standard renewal forms to you for the new company, Starr Indemnity. You can expect no changes in the coverage offered, and no change in premiums are expected.
Starr Indemnity & Liability Company provides a wide range of insurance products, including a variety of aviation products. Starr Indemnity has an A.M. Best financial strength rating of "A" (Excellent)
Aviation Insurance Resources agents are standing by to answer any questions you may have regarding your insurance renewal.

Transforming the Art & Craft of Flight Instruction

This presentation is very worthwhile. Have a look!

FAA Promotes More Manual Flight Operations | | The FAA recently released a Safety Alert For Operators (SAFO) recommending that Operators promote manual flight operations.
A recent FAA study identified that a lack of manual handling skills was increasingly becoming a factor in aircraft accidents and incidents. The FAA further stated that "maintaining and improving the knowledge and skills for manual flight operations is necessary for safe flight operations."
While the above statement may seem obvious to most of us, many commercial flight operators require their pilots to maximize the use of flight automation (i.e., Autopilot) as a means of maximizing fuel efficiency and thus reducing costs. This SAFO is a small step in combating this trend.
The SAFO can be read here (note: it's a short 1 page). |
See What's New in the SAFE Resource Center! | | This month's feature: Aircraft Transition Training -- How To Do It Right
How do you teach a pilot to fly an unfamiliar aircraft safely? It could be anything from a Long EZ canard to a Mooney M20 to a Cessna 195. For a thorough guide on aircraft transition training, log in to the SAFE Resource Center for CFI Hobie Tomlinson's series of articles, "Transition to Experimental or Unfamiliar Aircraft." Find it under the Safety topic in the Member Contributed Resources section.
The Member Section of the SAFE Resource Center is an exclusive benefit for all SAFE members. To make the most of YOUR membership, take advantage of the wide variety of instructional tools available there. New resources are posted regularly, and you are encouraged to submit your own multimedia materials to the Resource Center.

WANTED: Webinar Presenters for EAA/IAC Webinars in 2013
The International Aerobatic Club (IAC) has joined the EAA in providing speakers to present material online as part of the EAA webinar series. IAC has provided presenters every month since June 2011 and is excited about the added value this brings to the EAA webinar series.
Lorrie Penner is currently booking speakers for 2013 webinars. Presenters typically have a one-hour time slot during the second or third week of each month, on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, starting at 7:00 pm CST. Presenters are needed for the remainder of the year, but particularly for March, April, and May.
IAC is focusing on providing more seminars on flight control usage that is outside of the norm, but not considered aerobatics. Discussing stick and rudder techniques that are outside of what the typical general aviation pilot is taught, however, has proven very useful. Webinar topics may include spin avoidance, basic aerodynamic principles, low speed stalls in coordinated turns, and other similar topics. If you would like to present a compatible topic in 2013 as outlined above, IAC would be very interested in hearing from you. If you have not had an opportunity to see any of our previous webinars, they are recorded and stored at the EAA Webinar Archives. For example, see this see this link to a webinar Rich Stowell gave in March 2012.
If you would like more information about how our webinars operate and the guidelines for setting up your own Powerpoint presentation, please contact Lorrie Penner at penn.lorrie@gmail.com, or phone (513) 284-5076.

Teaching the Aviators Model Code of Conduct to Kids
Tools to Advance Aviation Safety and Professionalism
The Aviators Model Code of Conduct for Kids, an abridged and simplified explanation of the Aviators Model Code of Conduct (AMCC), was released January 2, 2013, by the project's Permanent Editorial Board. Written for use in the classroom with language appropriate for children, the document exposes young students to important values shared by safe and successful aviators.
The AMCC will introduce students to what it takes to be a good pilot, to fly safely, and be a good passenger if they take a ride in a small plane. Learning the basic rules of flying will help them succeed in many areas of their lives-as students now, and as adults in the future.
To read more, visit the AMCC website here.
