The Temptation of Christ   c.1500
Artist: JUAN DE FLANDES

The Temptation of Christ, one of the surviving panels of the 47 panel work of art known as the Polyptych of Isabella the Catholic, reveals Juan de Flandes's origin in the art of Hugo van der Goes and his follower the Master of Mary Burgundy, whose precise, delicate style of miniature painting he adapted to works in oil on panel.

THE COLLECT

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR EPISCOPAL RELIEF & DEVELOPMENT

Almighty God, give to Episcopal Relief & Development the vision of Jesus whose compassion failed not, that following His example we may bring healing to this hurting world.
Grant that we may know who we must be as the arms and legs of Christ in the world today, so that we shall do what we are called to do in responding and making available resources of money, skills, and persons to alleviate poverty, famine, and disaster.

We thank you for the many generous souls who give of their abundance and pray that many others may join them in responding to the needs, hopes, and concerns of the world through Episcopal Relief & Development.

Set us at tasks to risk the Gospel in all places where you lead us, through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

Please join us after the service for a time of hospitality in the Chapter House.

CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL MISSION

The Cathedral is the spiritual center of the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.  The Cathedral is a dynamic and evolving church that serves as a liturgical, educational, and pastoral center for Diocesan life. It serves as a visible symbol of unity and promotes growth, hope, and a deepening trust in the Lord. The Cathedral is a place where the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be faithfully preached and responded to, and it will model new concepts and ideas for education, evangelism, and outreach to which the Gospel calls us.
