2014 ME Early Literacy Calendar Cover

At Raising Readers we've been promoting a love of books and reading for 13 years, encouraging parents to read aloud with their young children daily. In fact, we're proud to say that Maine parents report reading to their young children daily more than any other state except Vermont.*

Read aloud is a terrific start but parents and caregivers often ask us what else they can do to help their children acquire important early literacy skills. The answer? The Maine Early Literacy Calendar. The 2014 edition features the literacy components that have been shown through research to be important in advancing children's literacy skills.  Each month offers suggestions for promoting the literacy component featured and several books you might use to promote those skills and understandings. Plus, you'll get a sneak peek at the books Raising Readers will begin distributing in 2014.

We hope you find this calendar useful as you continue to build your child's brain through talking, reading, singing, and playing with your little one.
