At our last meeting.....

At our last meeting, Bill Davies,  of the BIll Davies Homeless Shelter outlined the history and purpose of the shelter.  Homeless people can stay for up to 60 days, as long as they are actively trying to get their lives together.  This means looking for employment or working on a GED, looking for housing, and participating in the ongoing day to day maintenance of the house.
Exchangites busy this past week with a number of projects.

The week started with a 9/11 remembrance at the Rome Floyd Law Enforcement Center for all those killed on that terrible day and to honor those first responders who still serve us

everyday.
Small American Flags were handed out to attendees.

Exchangite John Upton presents a flag to Rome Mayor Jamie Doss.

Exchangites John Fortune,  Jim Belzer,  and Bill King were in attendance at the Niceville Florida Exchange Club Field of Valor event.  We were invited to participate while at the National Convention when we met the Niceville Exchange Club group. The Field of Valor is a display of American flags that are 3 by 5 feet and each flag is marked with the name of a Florida resident that served in the military and was killed in action since 9/11.

Finally this week, Exchangites have been in all the fourth grade classes throughout the community, presenting a program on the history of our flag down through the years. Flag etiquette is also stressed.   Each fourth grader receives a small American Flag from the Exchange Club.  The club also dedicated a Freedom Shrine at the Anna K Davie Elementary School.

From Exchangite Robert Smyth:
As many of you know 2 weeks ago I had a mild stroke. I am back at work and recovering quickly. I truly believe that all the prayers and well wishes that have been sent to me and my family made all the difference. God does hear and answer prayer and I am living proof. I want to say a special thank you to my loving wife and my parents. They have shown me such grace and patience through all this. As you might imagine, I am not the best patient. They, along with my children and this community have shown me so much love and support through this bump in the road of life, that I really don't have the words to express my gratitude. I also want to thank the staff at Floyd Medical Center for their excellent care. They showed such professionalism and compassion from the ER to CCU. Thank everyone again for taking time to pray for me and my family and may God bless each of you.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
