Georgia DOT Commissioner
Russell McMurry

Longtime Georgia DOT  Executive, Russell McMurry, was elected by the 14-member State Transportation Board to be the commissioner of the Transportation Department,
in January, 2015.

McMurry, a Hart County native, has worked for Georgia DOT for 25 years - joining in 1990 as a civil engineering trainee.

Prior to becoming Commissioner, he was chosen by Governor Nathan Deal to be the Department's  Planning Director after serving for two years as its Chief Engineer - during which time he was responsible for managing the Engineering, Construction, Operations, Intermodal,P3/Innovative and Program Delivery Divisions, as well as the offices of Organizational Performance Management and Engineering Services.

At our last meeting....

At our last meeting, Ashley Ellington, Executive Director of the The Community Foundation for Greater Rome, explained to the club the history and purpose of the foundation.  While many non-profits have to spend much of their time on fund-raising rather than on their mission,  the foundation has no other mission than to raise funds, primarily endowment funds, to be able to help other non-profits with grants to make the Rome/Floyd County area a better place to live. Two members of the the Community Foundation's board, Wright Bagby and Jimmy Byars,  also attended.

The Americanism Committee will meet on Monday, August 29th, 5:30 at the Fair Office.

Tillman Clocktower Race is Just Around the Corner!

August 20th to be exact!!

It's almost here!  Our sponsorships ae strong this year, and registrations look good.  We are putting the finishing touches on another great race, and we need YOU to make this the best race ever.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered or registered to run or walk so far.  We still need volunteers to fill several critical spots.
It takes a lot of volunteers to make our race the best in the area.  If you have not volunteered and would be willing to give us a few hours of your time on Friday afternoon from 4 until 6 for packet pick-up, or from 6 or 7 until 10 on Saturday morning, please let Gail Johnson or Jason Sanker know ASAP.  Gail can be reached at 706-346-9348 and Jason at 706-506-6503.

A note from our Treasurer

Bob Steinbruegge,  Exchange Treasurer,  announced at the meeting last week that there was a problem with the email invoices for our quarterly dues.  Some emails did not make it to members but Bob does not know which ones..... So if you did not receive an invoice in July for 3rd quarter dues,  please go ahead and send in your $100.  Dues can also be deposited in the box in the lobby of the Palladium,  next to the china cabinet.

If you need an invoice,  please contact Bob.

 His email is :   Bob.Steinbruegge@gmail.com
 His cell phone is:   706-233-2223

Thanks....

Exchange Fellowship
This week please remember these Exchangites in your thoughts and prayers:

Mike Simmons, our Director of Security annually at our Coosa Valley Fair and a motorcycle policeman for the Rome PD was struck by a car while leaving one wreck scene to travel to another.  He was wearing a yellow traffic vest and his emergency lights were operating.  Mike was operated on and a rod was place in his leg.  But you know, you can't keep a good man down.  Mike is now in rehab and faces a long recovery period.  Please keep this good friend of Exchange in your thoughts and prayers.

Exchangite Bobby Padgett
has a combo defibrillator/pace maker implanted this past week.   Please continue to keep Bobby in your thoughts and prayers.  He has had a rough several months now.

If you have fellowship information, please let us know.  The email addresses are:

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
