This morning's news reports verified that Exchangite Bud Owen will be Gordon County Commissioner Bud Owen at the first of the year.

Exchangite Tim Burkhalter won a fourth term as Floyd County Sheriff with fellow Exchangite Tom Caldwell as Chief Deputy.

Exchangite Jack Niedrach won another four-year term as Floyd County Superior Court Judge.

Exchangite Gene Richardson won another four-year term as Chief Magistrate Judge of Floyd County.

The Exchange Club of Rome has a number of other local elected officials as members. Two members of the Floyd County Commission, Rhonda Wallace and Scotty Hancock, three members of the Rome City Commission, Bill Irmscher, Milton Slack, and Sue Lee, and Rome School Board Member Dr. Richard Dixon.
At our last meeting....

Pete McDonald, President of Georgia Northwestern Technical College, whose administrative offices are located here in Rome, provided a great view into the workings of the Technical College System of Georgia.  Their primary focus is a trained work force and graduating students not only qualified for existing jobs but also to graduate them debt free.  A large number of scholarships and grants are available for career training at the 6 campuses that make up GNTC.

Bad News Turns Into Good News
Many Romans were surprised to learn that K-Mart was closing their store on Turner McCall Blvd.  What people didn't realize was this "Store Closing" sale presented a very advantageous purchasing opportunity to the Exchange sponsored Toys For Tots campaign.

Retiring Director Hal Gosnell and new Director Marti Robles were two of the first in the store to find some special toys at special prices for this years distribution in December.

And find they did because the pair filled up numerous buggies and purchased 162 Lego sets for $3,329.25.  These sets were targeted at the ages 7-9 group which is always in need of extra toys.  The purchase money was carried over from last year's campaign for just such a purpose.

Toys For Tots operates 12-months a year and the buyers are always on the lookout for special sales, inventory reductions, and donations that are sorted into the inventory and stored for inclusion in the distribution.

Anytime you see a good toy at a great price, please consider purchasing it and donating it to Toys For Tots.  You don't have to wait for December.

Your Donations of Clothes Are Helping The Family Resource Center Families
Cleaning out your closets?  Getting rid of clothes you can no longer wear?  You can donate these clothes and at the same time help the families of the Exchange Club Family Resource Center obtain clothes.

The Hospitality House operates a "previously worn" clothing outlet and if you donate your old clothes to them and tell them to credit the account of the FRC, families can than secure clothing needs using that credit.

The process is simple:
  • List the clothing items you are donating on a piece of paper.
  • Take the items to the shopping center where the IGA is located on Shorter Avenue and go to the opposite end of the strip center where you will find a door on the side that accepts donations.
  • Give them you list and tell them to give the list to Vickie for the Exchange Club Family Resource Center and the donation will be credited to the FRC account for our families.

Just another easy way you can donate to child abuse prevention.

Exchange Fellowship
This week please remember these Exchangites in your thoughts and prayers:

Exchangite Bob Evans is at Redmond.  He went to the ER last week because he was having pain in his arm, and it turned out that he was having a heart attack.  He had a quadruple bypass, is doing great, and should go home by the end of the week.

Exchangite Rhonda Wallace's dad had AoritcValve Replacement on Wednesday.  Please remember this family in you thoughts and prayers

Please continue to remember the family of  Exchangite Bill Wigley who passed away last week.

Please continue to remember Exchangite Paul Smith's wife Gerrell.. She has been in and out of hospital in last few weeks.

We also need to remember Brenda Gail Baldwin, a former member, who has been seriously ill.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
