Exchange Club prepares for Memorial Day

l-r Exchangites Ralph White, Jim Belzer, Giles Chapman, Bill King

On Monday, Bill King and several of his Americanism Committee members joined Nelle Reagan at the WRGA studios to talk about Memorial Day and the Exchange Club's patriotic activities planned for the community. This year the Memorial Day activities will be conducted on our own Coosa Valley Fairgrounds beginning at 10:00 A.M. and make a special presentation of our replica of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  Youth assisting with the program will be the Greater Rome Area Young Marines and Boy Scouts of America. Following the program there will be display booths open to the public, veterans organizations representatives, military air craft displays, military vehicle displays, and concert presentations by the Thankful Baptist Church Choir, 8th Regiment Band, and Roman Festival Brass.

Memorial Day is truly a day of remembrance. It is a day when the Exchange Club of Rome helps bring the community together to honor those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. It is the day when we: "... discharge the debt I owe to those of high and low estate who have served and sacrificed that the heritage of American citizenship might be mine."

At our last meeting....

Our last meeting was a Business Meeting.  Exchange Past President Bryan Shealy conducted the induction ceremony as we inducted one new member into our club.

Exchange Past President Bryan Shealy introduced our new member, Spencer Brewer, who then outlined his interests and reasons for joining Exchange.  Spencer is associated with lavender Mountain Hardware in Armuchee and  was sponsored by Frank Redwine.

Donate Your Clothes And Help The Family Resource Center Families
Cleaning out your closets?  Getting rid of clothes you can no longer wear?  You can donate these clothes and at the same time help the families of the Exchange Club Family Resource Center obtain clothes.

The Hospitality House operates a "previously worn" clothing outlet and if you donate your old clothes to them and tell them to credit the account of the FRC, families can than secure clothing needs using that credit.

The process is simple:
  • List the clothing items you are donating on a piece of paper.
  • Take the items to the shopping center where the IGA is located on Shorter Avenue and go to the opposite end of the strip center where you will find a door on the side that accepts donations.
  • Give them you list and tell them to give the list to Vickie for the Exchange Club Family Resource Center and the donation will be credited to the FRC account for our families.

Just another easy way you can donate to child abuse prevention.

Exchange Fellowship
This week please remember these Exchangites in your thoughts and prayers:

Please continue to remember Exchangite Bradley Burkhalter's family this week.  Bradley passed away 2 weeks ago. He was a Past President and believed until the time of his death in the importance of Exchange. In his death his legacy will live on in his desire for donations in his memory be made to our Exchange Club Family Resource Center.

Exchangite Bobby Padgett is now back at work part time.  Please remember Bobby and the Padgett family in your thoughts and prayers.

We are sorry to report that Exchangite June Noble's mother, Ginger Noble, passed away at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta this week. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. Please keep the Noble family in your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. Her funeral was this past Sunday - Mother's Day - a particularly difficult time for June and her family

Exchangite Paul Smith and his wife Gerrell have been in and out of Floyd Hospital during past few weeks   Paul was at our last meeting and is feeling much better.  He reported his wife is also home now and doing some better.  Please keep Paul, Gerrell, and all this family in your thoughts and prayers.

We also need to remember Brenda Gail Baldwin, a former member, who has been seriously ill.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
