At our last meeting....

Attending our last meeting was Exchangite Hazel Hendrix, District Vice President and an announced candidate for District President.  She encouraged everyone to attend the District Convention coming up in June at Callaway Gardens.

The Rome Exchange Club program was about our Family Resource Center and was presented by Tina Bartleson, Exec Director of the center.   The program brought to a close a month long series of activities and programs to bring awareness to  Child Abuse Prevention.

Winners of the Blue Monday contest were present and introduced to the club.

Tina outlined all the ways the Family Resource Center tries to prevent child abuse by providing an array of services and support to families in our communities.

Tina outlined all the many things that bring pressure on parents, especially single parent families.  Often all these pressures become overwhelming and can lead to child abuse.

Tina illustrated this by continuing to hand  boxes, representing all the many pressures of everyday life, to her assistant, Allison Watters.

Finally, all the staff of the Family Resource Center were presented to the club and received a plaque from Tina.

Donate Your Clothes And Help The Family Resource Center Families
Cleaning out your closets?  Getting rid of clothes you can no longer wear?  You can donate these clothes and at the same time help the families of the Exchange Club Family Resource Center obtain clothes.

The Hospitality House operates a "previously worn" clothing outlet and if you donate your old clothes to them and tell them to credit the account of the FRC, families can than secure clothing needs using that credit.

The process is simple:
  • List the clothing items you are donating on a piece of paper.
  • Take the items to the shopping center where the IGA is located on Shorter Avenue and go to the opposite end of the strip center where you will find a door on the side that accepts donations.
  • Give them you list and tell them to give the list to Vickie for the Exchange Club Family Resource Center and the donation will be credited to the FRC account for our families.

Just another easy way you can donate to child abuse prevention.

Volunteers needed...
Coosa Valley Fair Logo
Coosa Valley Fair President John Garner is looking for volunteers to fill two chair person positions for this years fair in October.

Food Booth Chair - This person will work with the organizations that occupy the permanent block concession buildings.  These buildings are filled by long standing non-profits, and the chairman's job would be to make sure the rental agreements are in order, answer questions, and be the "go to" person between the CVFA and the organizations.

Photography Chairman -This person would be responsible for preparing the building for the entries and receiving them, displaying the entries, securing judges, and being there after the fair to return the entries back to the owners.

If you are interested in looking at either of these positions, please give John Garner a call at 706-346-3885.  John says for either of these chairmanships there are experienced Exchangites who will help train you and get you started in your new job.

Yard Sale
Our yard sale last Saturday yielded over $1000 which will be used to support the Exchange Club's Americanism Committee's many activities.

Thanks to all who provided items and to those members who showed up to work at the event.
The CVF Community Building was filled with items to choose from.

Exchange Fellowship
This week please remember these Exchangites in your thoughts and prayers:

Exchangite and Life Member Bradley Burkhalter passed away this past weekend. Bradley was a life member of the Exchange Club of Rome, joining in 1950. He was a Past President and believed until the time of his death in the importance of Exchange. In his death his legacy will live on in his desire for donations in his memory be made to our Exchange Club Family Resource Center.

Exchangite Bobby Padgett is now back at work part time.  Please remember Bobby and the Padgett family in your thoughts and prayers.

We are sorry to report that Exchangite June Noble's mother, Ginger Noble, passed away at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta this week. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. Please keep the Noble family in your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

Exchangite Paul Smith's wife, Gerrell has been and out of Floyd Hospital during past few weeks   And now,  Paul has been admitted, suffering from dehydration.  So at this point, both Paul and Gerrell are in the hospital.  Please keep Paul, Gerrell,  and all this family in your thoughts and prayers.

We also need to remember Brenda Gail Baldwin, a former member, who has been seriously ill.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
