Halloween Downtown Trick or Treat

Again this year, the Rome Exchange Club was called upon to provide "crossing guards" to insure the safety of all the Trick or Treaters that showed up on Broad Street on Halloween afternoon.  Thanks to all the Exchangites that answered the call and were there at the crossings.  I don't think Broad Street has ever had as many kids as were there to Trick or Treat the local merchants who participated.
Congratulations!!!

Two of our Exchangites,  Bill Irmscher and Milton Slack, were re-elected to the Rome City Commission on Tuesday.   Exchangite Buzz Wachsteter, presently a City Commissioner, lost out on his re-election bid by only 35 votes.  Buzz has been a member of the Rome City Commission since 2002.

Please remember to thank these people for living the Exchange Covenant of Service with  their service to the City of Rome.
Veterans Day Observance

On November 11th,  all Exchangites are invited to participate in a flag raising ceremony at 8 o'clock  at the Rome CIity Auditorium flagpole. Representatives from the VFW, American Legion Posts, disabled vets, and  other military organizations are also  invited. It is recommended that all participants be there no later than 7:45 a.m.

We would also like to encourage any of our veterans to share their service experiences from WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan with our club at our Veterans Program meeting on Nov. 13th when we will be honoring all of our veterans for their service to our country.  If any of you are interested please contact me at kingglfnt@yahoo.com and he will be in contact with you.

Family Resource Center News...

  • Campaign update: To date this year, contributions to our Annual Campaign have totaled over $80,000!  We are almost to goal and invite you to contact the Center today to make your pledge if you have not done so!
  • The Center hosted a Volunteer Parent Aide training on the weekend of October 24th with 8 participants.  We are in process of following up with these potential volunteers to determine how they want to serve children & families.
  • Volunteer Needs:  The FRC could use some helping hands as follows:
    •  Organize in-kind donations to the FRC:  We need some helping organizing our supply closets...and to integrate gifts such as those just received from Second Avenue Baptist Church's "Virtual Shower" (see picture)
    •  Parenting Group Assistant:  Shemika is looking for an assistant to help with the "details" involved in running a twice monthly parenting group.  Activities would include:  room set-up, setting up refreshments, calling speakers, etc.  Time commitment is 1-2 hours twice monthly.
Virtual Shower - compliments of Second Avenue Baptist Church.

Last weeks meeting......
Exchangite Len Woodward presented our program last week.  Len has been involved in a project to not only identify all the trees at Myrtle Hill Cemetery but also to label them.  Len presented an interesting program covering the events which led up to the project to identify and tag the trees on the cemetery property; the results of the survey; the developments since completion of the project, future steps, and the outlook for cemetery improvements.

Toys for Tots.....

Toys For Tots Train

It's not too early to start thinking about and supporting our Toys for Tots effort this year.

Registration is being held this week at Good Neighbor Ministries and Bob Evans is just one of the Exchange volunteers that has been working signing up families for toys to be distributed on December 19th at our fairgrounds.

TFT Chair Hal Gosnell has also been busy.  He has lined up a number of items to raffle and tickets are available from him at each meeting.
In addition to the handmade items shown here,  a Big Green Egg with it's nest, as well as a Cultured Pearl Necklace from Ford, Gittings, and Kane Jewelers are going to be raffled off.

Exchange Fellowship
This week please remember these Exchangites in your thoughts and prayers:

Exchangite Terry Clift's wife,  Nancy, fell and busted her knee really bad.  She had surgery and is  now resting at home and undergoing rehab but is able to get out some.

If you have fellowship information, please let us know.  The email addresses are:
Gail Johnson: gailj1@bellsouth.net
If you have emailed one of the above and your fellowship need has not been announced within a few hours, please email one of the other contacts.

What some of the families who work with the Exchange Club Family Resource Center have to say about our services:
  • "I loved the talking I had with her [Parent Aide]"
  •  "I was so thankful I received the help I did.  I learned a lot."
  • "She taught me how to improve my anger."
  • "She was the first person who ever believed in me."

Your support enables parents to have the information they need so that they can avoid abuse and neglect.  YOU give children healthier and happier childhoods.  Thanks for giving to our Annual Campaign. Haven't made your pledge yet?  No worries...simply see Charles Steven or call Tina Bartleson at 706-290-0764.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
