  Greetings!

Next Meeting

August 21st
Redmond Heart House and
Heart of the Community Foundation

Our own Wanda Whitten will discuss the history and mission of the Heart Of the Community Foundation and the ministry of the Heart House.

The Heart of the Community Foundation works to honor Rome residents for their committed service and dedication to the community.

Redmond Regional Medical Center recently renamed their  Heart House   to The Wanda J. Whitten  Guest House.
Wanda has worked at Redmond nearly 43 years (literally, since before the doors were open to the first patient) and has served as the liason to the HOC Board of Governors for nearly 10 years.

Menu:
Meatloaf, Chicken, Creamed Potatoes, Green Beans, fried okra, salad, rolls, Cobbler and Cake

Yard Sale Items Needed
yard sale
Our own Mr. Yard Sale, Scottie Edwards has put out a call for items to be placed in another Exchange Club Yard Sale to be held at the fairgrounds August 22nd.  Please bring all your items to donate to our next meeting on Friday, August 21st.

What ever you have...we want it and you can either bring it to an Exchange meeting with you or we will pick it up if you call Scottie at 706-346-5998.  Nothing is too small or too big because one man's trash is an others treasure.

All club proceeds will be used to help purchase car safety seats.

Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower Race

Almost 500 runners and walkers came out to Heritage Park on Saturday, August 15th, for the 30th running of the Clocktower 5K.  This year marks the 10th year that the race has included a 2 Mile Health Walk and has been run in memory of Gary Tillman to benefit the Family Resource Center.  Jay Stephenson won the men's division in a time of 16:19, while Jill Braley won the women's division in a time of 18:49.  Several Exchangites and their families participated in either the 5K or 2-Mile,and the volunteer ranks were full of smiling Exchangite faces.  In addition, many of our sponsors have connections with members of our club.  Without the Exchange Club of Rome, this race would not have the success it enjoys year after year.

A huge thank you is due to the following businesses and organizations who sponsored this year's event:

Presenting:  Coosa Valley Fair Association, Exchange Club of Rome, Rome Runners Club

Platinum:  Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Redmond Regional Medical Center

Gold:  Advance Rehab, Chick-Fil-A Dwarf House, Coosa Valley Credit Union,  Cycle Therapy, Floyd Medical Center, Kindred Hospital, Performance Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine, RomeO rthopaedic Center, Team 360

Silver:  C&S Trophies, Heritage First Bank, McRae, Stegall, Peek, Harman, Smith, & Manning, LLP, Pridemore & Cox Orthodontics, Pro Performance Personal Training, Q102/ MRadio

Bronze:  Eagle Rock Distributing, Floyd Healthcare Foundation, KRE8SHUNS Mobile DJ Services, Kroger, River City Bank

Friends of the Race:  Greene's Jewelers, Hi Tech Signs, Pretty Little Em Bands, Representative Katie Dempsey, Rome Coca ColaBottling, SweetFrog, Ted Buckenham Photography, Tyson Foods

Of course the biggest thank you of all goes to the members of the Exchange Club of Rome, without whom this would be just another 5K race in Rome.  Thank you for your dedication, your expertise, and your willingness to do whatever is thrown at you.  Saturday was another great day to be an Exchangite in Rome Georgia, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Gail Johnson
Race Director

Answer The Letter...Join The Campaign

People give to the Family Resource Center for any number of reasons:
  • "I believe that children deserve to live in homes that are safe and to live without neglect.
  • "I see our local child abuse statistics and I know that giving is a way that I can impact the lives of many each year.  I'm just one person but my gift helps many."
  • "I like that the Exchange program goes INTO the homes of families.  Each family is different and I'm impressed that they work with a family based on what that individual family needs.  It's not cookie-cutter program."
  • "I have served on the Board for a number of years and know that the Board as well as Center staff are frugal and use donations wisely."
  • "I have witnessed first-hand how dedicated and hard-working our staff of seven employees are in carrying out the mission of the Center."
Unsure why you should give? See Exchangite Charles StevensChairman of the Exchange Annual Campaign to learn more.  You may also call Tina Bartleson, FRC Executive Director, at 706-290-0764 to schedule a meeting and tour...and become part of the success story!

Exchange Fellowship
This week it seems like we have a lot people we need to pray for:
  • We we are sorry to report that Deborah Martin, who up until last month was a member of our club, passed away this week. There will be  a service celebrating her life on Thursday, August 20th, at 5:30 pm at First Christian Church of Rome (209 East 2nd Avenue Rome, GA 30165) followed by a reception at the private residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Blackwood. Please do not wear black, as this is a celebration of life.
  • A friend to many in our club, Brenda Gail Baldwin is doing better.
  • Please remember Exchangite Vivian Richmeier's parents, David & Dianne Maddox.
  •
If you have fellowship information, please let us know.  The email addresses are:

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first three times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal unless they have submitted an application for membership, in which case the meals will remain at no charge  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $10 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer or other officer at the time of the meeting.  Money can also be placed in the Dues Box in the lobby.
