Exchange Fellowship
This week it seems like we have a lot people we need to pray for:
  • Sherry Loyd, wife of Exchangite Jim Loyd is having severe kidney problems and is in need of our prayers.
  • Exchangite Bill Wigley just returned to the retirement home after spending a month in the hospital.  As the dementia is progressing his health is declining rapidly. Please keep him in your prayers.
  • Mary Louise Dixon, wife of Exchangite Richard Dixon has started a round of chemotherapy..
  • Exchangite Giles Chapman's doctors tell him that his cancer has  metastasized and is in his lymph glands.  He has completed two of the series of three treatments to help control this and is feeling great.
  • Please continue to keep Exchangite Barbara Carter and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
  • Let's not forget to remember Exchangite Len Woodward daughter Emily Macy.  Emily is not doing well.
  • Please continue to keep the family of Milton Tippin in your thoughts and prayers.  Milton passed away last Wednesday.
  • Exchangite Brenda Gail Baldwin needs continued prayers as she receives treatment for MS.
  • Exchangite Dan Scott's wife, Terri continues to do well in her treatment for cancer and needs our support.
  • Exchangite Ray Dempsey has completed his latest round of chemo and is doing OK. He has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver.
  • Exchangite Sam Burrell is in declining  health, both physically and mentally.  Please remember Sam and his family.

Strikeout Child Abuse Bowling Fundraising Event

For the sixth year in a row, bowling enthusiasts of all skill levels came  together to raise money to prevent child abuse.  "STRIKE Out Child Abuse" was held Tuesday night.  The Rome Exchange Club was well represented with 2 teams composed totally of Exchangites plus several other teams with  Exchange  members.    The event benefits the Exchange Club Family Resource Center.

The Family Resource Center staff came as Snow White( FRC Exec Director Tina Bartleson) and the Seven Dwarfs.

Exchange Club Christmas Party

It's that great time again for the Exchange Club of Rome's annual Christmas Party.  The event will be held on
Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Brewhouse in Downtown Rome.

As we've done in recent years, admission to the party will be an unwrapped gift from each attendee, which will go to Toys for Tots.

Each person will have three options for the entree:, chicken, beef wellington, or salmon.  Please call Kathy Phillips at the Family Resource Center at 706-290-0764 and let her know how many will be attending and your selection.

Each attendee will receive two drink tickets.  Additional drinks will be at your expense.  We look forward to you being there!
At our last meeting

Fellow Exchangite Terry Clift presented our Veterans Day program.  Terry visited the Normandy (D-Day) site this past Memorial Day and witnessed a stirring ceremony held at the American Cemetery located at what was called Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of Europe by the Allied Forces.  Terry presented a number of pictures of the American Cemetery, the Memorial Day ceremony, and the story of Frank Towers, an American soldier who helped liberate a large number of Jewish prisoners as they were being transported from one German concentration camp to another via rail.   Frank Towers (now 92 years old)  has spent the last few years of his life actively trying to connect with those he helped liberate almost 70 years ago.
The American Cemetery, located high atop the clifts at Omaha Beach, where more than 9000 solders are buried, each with an individual marker with their name, rank, unit, home state, and date killed.

Toys for Tots

Toys For Tots Train
As this will be the last XC Meeting before the Green Egg drawing, please bring your sold and unsold tickets and proceeds. Hal's wife will be in the lobby (barring jury duty) collecting and also selling tickets if you need one (or more).

Don't forget! The 80's and 90's "Disco Ball" will be at The Brewhouse on Saturday night, November 29th. Our own Robert Smyth will be the DJ and playing the hits from that era. Entry is $10, which goes to Toys for Tots. It will be from 8 to midnight.

One more Registration Day has been scheduled for Saturday, December 5th from 10A to 4P at the Good Neighbor Ministry, 208 E. Second Street.

Toy Distribution has been set for Saturday, December 20th at the Coosa Valley Fair ground.  As Hal explained at a recent meeting, much of the work for the distribution will be done  before the distribution day in order for that to go smoothly and quickly.

Meredith Brown will be the contact for those who can help sort and get toys ready for distribution. She will need people from Monday, Dec. 8th through Friday, Dec. 12th, both morning and afternoons. On Saturday morning, Dec. 13th, we will pack the toys for the Sheriff's program. The following week, Monday, Dec. 15th through Friday, Dec. 19th, she will need volunteers again for both morning and afternoon sorting and picking. If you can work only in the morning or afternoon, that is fine. Also, if there are days you can and cannot work, just let Meredith know. Her email address is meredith@howseandrice.com. We will need 4 to 8 people there most of the time to get the work done.

Recent Service Projects

On Halloween, the Rome Exchange Club was asked to provide crossing guards for the intersections and crosswalks along Broad Street as the local merchants invited Trick or Treaters to come by for candy and other goodies.  As usual, the Rome Exchange Club stepped up to the help with this important task to insure the safety of the kids.

Also, on Veterans Day,  members of the Rome Exchange Club participated in a ceremony  at Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
Exchangite Giles Chapman lays a wreath on the Tomb of the Known Soldier.

Santa for Seniors Program

We will soon be participating with the  Floyd County Sheriff's Department with the Santa for Seniors program.  This program provides holiday gifts to Senior Adults in the Rome area who do not have family nor would receive anything for Christmas.

Please let me know if you are willing to adopt a Senior.

You will be provided with their names and a wish list that they have completed.  All deliveries are made by the Sheriff's Department and we will need to have everything ready and brought to the Exchange Club meeting  no later than December  20, 2014.  If you are willing, I will be forwarding the information to you as soon as I receive it.

Thanks

New Romans Holiday Charity Auction!!!

Are you looking for someplace to have lunch on December 5th??--this is the  day of our Exchange Club Christmas Party so there will be no Noon Exchange Meeting this day.  Please join Tina Bartleson and the fine folks of the New Romans Club at their annual Holiday Charity Auction at Coosa County Club.  The $15 cost buys an awesome lunch--Waldorf salad, Chicken Rollentine, Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Almandine, and Glazed Carrots with White Chocolate Mousse for desert!  You'll get to hear a lively auction hosted by our own Lynn Dempsey.  Best of all, a portion of the proceeds raised will benefit The Exchange Club Family Resource Center.  Tina has seen some of the prizes and there are some nice items as well as one-of-a-kind objects that could make for some fine gift-giving this season!  Doors open at 10:30 AM.  To make reservations, call Ruth 706-314-9232  (make reservations by Nov. 28th).   More Info

Exchange members support the Center in a big way! Did you know that.....

  • The Exchange Club of Rome and Coosa Valley Fair Association have contributed almost $29,000 to your child abuse prevention center in 2014 through direct donations and event sponsorships?
  • 125 Exchange members have made direct individual contributions to the Family Resource Center to date in 2014, totaling over $30,000?

Thanks members for your support!  Your investment of time AND money makes our community a better place...and it makes our Center stronger!

Santa is beginning to check his list and you can too!  If you are interested in adopting a Family Resource Center child or family for Christmas, please let Tina know!

Rome Exchange awarded National Service Award

The Exchange Club of Rome has been awarded the National Service Award for 2014-2015 by the National Exchange Club.

To achieve this honor a club must complete at least one program each in the four Programs of Service, Americanism, Youth, Community Service, and Child Abuse Prevention, as well as two others for any category.
Club Builders Look For Exchange Legacies For Rome High Excel Club

Members of the growth team working on the next Excel Club at Rome High School are looking for legacies, children, grandchildren, or other family members of Exchange members, who attend RHS.  These students should already have some connection with Exchange through the family connection and would be great prospects for the initial charter members of the club.

Drop an email to buzzrome@comcast.net and let him know about any of your family members who would fit this category.

Excel is the high school arm of the National Exchange Club and works with students to achieve community service, patriotism, the prevention of child abuse, and service to our youth.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first two times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal.  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $7 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer at the time of the meeting.
