National Exchange Club Foundation

Please help us become a 100% Club!
This  weeks Business Meeting will be the last day to turn in your check to Bryan to forward to National !!!

National has begun an initiative to raise funds for the National Exchange Club Foundation.  The Foundation funds projects such as the scholarships given away for the National ACE Award and National Speech Contest Winner.

We have been asked to donate $11.00 each in hopes of raising $220,000 for the Foundation.  If you are able to contribute,  write an $11.00 check to the National Exchange Club Foundation.  Do not mail the check directly but forward to me and I will be sending all the checks to the Foundation together.
This weeks Business Meeting will be the last day to turn in your check to Bryan to forward to National !!!
Thank you for helping with this very worthwhile endeavor.

This week it seems like we have a lot people we need to pray for:
  • Mary Louise Dixon, wife of Exchangite Richard Dixon has started a round of chemotherapy..
  • Exchangite Giles Chapman's doctors tell him that his cancer has  metastasized and is in his lymph glands.  He will begin a series of infusions aimed at keeping it under control.

  • Let's not forget to remember Exchangite Len Woodward daughter Emily Macy.  Emily is not doing well.

  • Exchangite Brenda Gail Baldwin needs continued prayers as she receives treatment for MS.
  • Exchangite Dan Scott's wife, Terri continues to do well in her treatment for cancer and needs our support.

Santa for Seniors Program

We will soon be participating with the  Floyd County Sheriff's Department with the Santa for Seniors program.  This program provides holiday gifts to Senior Adults in the Rome area who do not have family nor would receive anything for Christmas.

Please let me know if you are willing to adopt a Senior.

You will be provided with their names and a wish list that they have completed.  All deliveries are made by the Sheriff's Department and we will need to have everything ready and brought to the Exchange Club meeting  no later than December  20, 2014.  If you are willing, I will be forwarding the information to you as soon as I receive it.

Thanks

Toys for Tots

Toys For Tots Train

Hal Gosnell will be selling raffle tickets for the large "Big Green Egg" at this weeks meeting. He will also have packets of raffle tickets for you to take if you have friends, customers, or others who would like a chance on the Egg or would want to make a contribution to Toys for Tots.

*******************************************

A number of Exchangites have been busy this week, taking applications from families that are requesting toys from the Toys for Tots program.
Exchangite Mike Elliott interviews a perspective client for the Toys for Tots program.  Needy families fill out a questionaire, listing the their childrens names and ages. Once verified,  they become eligible for the toy distribution in December.

At our last meeting

Continuing our Law Enforcement theme this month,  our program was presented by 2 investigators from the Rome City Police Department.  The topic was Child Abduction Response Team (CART).

Investigator Stephanie Hudson of the Rome City Police Dept was instrumental in organizing and establishing CART in the Rome Floyd County area.  Over 15 agencies are a part of this effort and coordinating their efforts was a large part of getting this started

Investigator Randy Gore, also of the Rome Police Dept, described several recent child abductions that have occurred during and since the creation of CART.

See Rome News story about CART.

SOCA
Strikeout Child Abuse Bowling Fundraising Event

For the sixth year in a row, bowling enthusiasts of all skill levels will come together to raise money to prevent child abuse.  "STRIKE Out Child Abuse" is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th.  According to event organizer, Robin Hice, "STRIKE Out Child Abuse brings everyone together for a fun-filled night of friendly competition. Not only do teams have the fun of bowling, we encourage them to get creative with their names and to carry that theme forward by dressing in costume.  Teams can also 'come as they are'--we want this to be a fun and relaxing evening for everyone."  The event benefits the Exchange Club Family Resource Center, a local non-profit agency that provides in-home parent education, training, and solutions to families experiencing challenges.

"STRIKE Out Child Abuse" will be held at Classic Lanes Bowling Center on Huffaker Road in Rome on November 18th, with doors opening at 6 PM.  Teams of 5 bowlers receive two games, shoe rental, and an event t-shirt.  In addition, door prizes and a 50/50 cash drawing will be held.   Team fees are $200.  This year, lane sponsorships are available for $150 and a combination package (team+lane sponsorship) is available for $300.

"STRIKE Out Child Abuse is one of the highlights of my year," says Center Director Tina Bartleson. "There is a great sense of comradery and fun.  Bowling is a great way to connect with others and participating in this event is a wonderful way to invest in the families of our community."

"We have only 12 teams and lane sponsor slots remaining," says Hice, "We encourage anyone who is interested in joining us on November 18h to submit their registration forms as soon as possible." Interested bowlers can register by calling the Family Resource Center at 706-290-0764706-290-0764.

Family Resource Center.....

Exchange members support the Center in a big way! Did you know that.....

  • The Exchange Club of Rome and Coosa Valley Fair Association have contributed almost $29,000 to your child abuse prevention center in 2014 through direct donations and event sponsorships?
  • 125 Exchange members have made direct individual contributions to the Family Resource Center to date in 2014, totaling over $30,000?

Thanks members for your support!  Your investment of time AND money makes our community a better place...and it makes our Center stronger!

If you have not yet made your pledge or individual contribution this year, IT IS NOT TOO LATE.  In fact, it's a great time to make your contribution-either in honor or memory of someone for the holidays or just because.  Fair warning though: making that donation may cause a sense of pride in the work completed by your Club and your Center.  You may also experience a sense of power because you are helping to keep children safe-children who are most vulnerable to abuse because of their age and condition.

To make a gift:

  • See Tina Bartleson or John Hine;
  • Log onto our website and make a donation using PayPal or your debit/credit card.

Thanks for your support!

  •     The Family Resource Center will have a booth at the upcoming EXPO (November 7-8).  We are looking to publicize our great agency, highlight Exchange's involvement, and educate area businesses about ways to "Market with a Mission".  You can help us do this by volunteering for a two-hour shift on November 8th.  This is a fun way to visit with friends and family that visit the EXPO---and promote a good cause at the same time. Another way to support us is to visit our booth!!  We'll have games and give-aways.  Please see Tina if you need entry tickets to the event.
  •      Santa is beginning to check his list and you can too!  If you are interested in adopting a Family Resource Center child or family for Christmas, please let Tina know!

Club Builders Look For Exchange Legacies For Rome High Excel Club

Members of the growth team working on the next Excel Club at Rome High School are looking for legacies, children, grandchildren, or other family members of Exchange members, who attend RHS.  These students should already have some connection with Exchange through the family connection and would be great prospects for the initial charter members of the club.

Drop an email to buzzrome@comcast.net and let him know about any of your family members who would fit this category.

Excel is the high school arm of the National Exchange Club and works with students to achieve community service, patriotism, the prevention of child abuse, and service to our youth.

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first two times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal.  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $7 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer at the time of the meeting.
