July 4th activities......

This year the Rome Exchange Club has been invited to sell/distribute American Flags at the Rome Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Block Party on July 4 and also the Community Fireworks Display that same night at Ridge Ferry Park.  Exactly what we do will be based on response from the club members on who will be able to volunteer on this holiday.   We definitely need your help on July 4th - both downtown and at the fireworks display.  Please contact Giles Chapman giles007@comcast.net  or 706-234-7967 (home) to volunteer  and to get details.
At our meeting last week.......

Pictured above are Elaine Snow, Rome City Police Chief; Investigator Jeff Richerson; Sergeant Joe Costolnick; Investigator Pete Sailors;  Exchangite Debbie Burnett; and Exchange President Tony Daniel.

At our meeting last week,  Exchangite Debbie Burnett introduced 3 officers from the Rome Police Department who were involved in the investigation of the three homicides that took place in Rome in 2013.  A fascinating inside story of following leads, trying to piece together the truth from multitudes of conflicting stories, and many who tried to obstruct justice.  At the conclusion of the program, the Rome Exchange Club presented awards to each officer for their dedicated service to the citizens of Rome.

Congratulations!!!

Exchangite Amy Knitig's husband,  Chris,  graduates from the residency program at Floyd Medical Center on Saturday evening,  then begins his practice at Harbin Clinic in Cartersville on Monday, July 7!
Congratulations.... I know it probably seemed the day  would never come... but it's here!

FRC Family Day

Family Day @ the Eco Center/Ridge Ferry Park

Last July, we hosted 26 families with over 70 children for a day of fun, food and back-to-school supplies.  The Exchange Club of Rome generously gave school supplies so that we could help the children of Rome and Floyd County be prepared on their first day of school.

This year's family day is scheduled for July 19.
Backpacks have been donated for each kid attending.

Still needed are school supplies and volunteers to help with this event.  Please contact Nan Winkelman

706-346-4558,  nanlangford@yahoo.com or call Kathy at the Exchange Club Family Resource Center, (706) 290-0764 if you can help in any way!!!

Family Resource Center news....

The Family Resource Center has published it's latest newsletter.  To view, click here.

Our Annual Campaign kicked off in April and we are making great progress toward our goals.  We are 62% to our overall goal, and Exchange Club is at 41% for membership participation.

Good News To Report:  The FRC has received confirmation that they are getting both 2015 Promoting Safe and Stable Families (PSSF) contracts  applied for and have been awarded the entire amount requested on both contracts!  Here's what was requested:

Supervised Visitation

Federal Award: $92,607.75

Required Match:  $30,869.25

Total Program Cost:  $123,477.00

Parent Aide

Federal Award:  $30,430.50

Required Match:  $10,143.50

Total Program Cost:  $40,574.00

Thanks for all the support from the Rome Exchange Club. As you can see,  a dollar donated to the FRC can result in an additonal three dollars from the Federal grants.

Messsage from the President
Tony Daniel

Hello fellow Exchangites.

We are near the end of the year and it has been a great one.  As a club, we've made some great strides.  We have experienced some great programs that were both enlightening and educational.  We have been left with a sense of pride toward our membership in this community.

We have recognized the charter of the Collegiate Club of Berry and they are off to a great start.  Buzz Wachsteter and Harry Wise worked diligently to make this happen.  Their efforts were tireless and their communication with the administrators at Berry, faculty, and Blake was tremendous.  Without their continuous work, this would not have come to fruition.  I would like to see one started at Shorter University next year and Buzz and I have already talked.

The replacement of the Star Spangled Banner flag was a great Americanism project.  The board of directors agreed to purchase the new flag, which was made in Georgia, and several members participated in opening the box, stretching it out, and folding it.  I want to thank Berry College for their use of the Cage Center in providing the space for us to stretch out such an enormous flag.  In June, we will be presenting the flag to the City of Rome.  City officials have agreed to erect a flag pole on the top of Jackson Hill and will fly this flag in September, the anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner.  The Americanism committee remains active in several projects as we close out the year.

We honor our members that we have lost this year.  We reflect on their impact to the club and appreciate their hard work throughout the years.  It is because of their perseverance that we continue on.

As we near the end of the year, I want to thank each of your for your support.  I have enjoyed being your president and appreciate each member's contribution to the Rome Exchange Club.  Serving you has been a great honor that I will always remember.

Yours in Exchange,

Dr. Tony Daniel

Meal Policy Of The Exchange Club Of Rome
Members are encouraged to bring prospective member guests to all regular meetings.  The club is most happy to pay for the meals of prospects the first two times they visit, more then that you are required to pay for your guest's meal.  If you bring a non-prospect guest, someone to just join you for lunch, or if you take out a lunch for anyone that is not a member, you are required to pay for your guest's or takeout meal.  The cost of the meal is $7 per meal and must be paid to the Treasurer at the time of the meeting.
