Crossing Guards Still Needed/Wanted
As many of you know our neighborhood enjoys the safe crossings for our students at three intersections by longtime, friendly and reliable guards. They have become fixtures in our neighborhood. The police department is looking for more good citizens to join their ranks as crossing guards. Please click here to see more information about this part-time, community service job that may work for you. Requests to work in or near your neighborhood are taken into consideration. When the new Larchmont School building iscompleted, there may be a need for more crossing guards to safely help students travel to and from school. You could be that difference in the world.

President's Letter
Greetings Neighbors!!
Summer is approaching and the beautiful weather is upon us.
This looks to be a great year with a lot of action and opportunities for the neighborhood. There have been numerous actions and meetings around flooding, NIT growth, terminal blvd construction, and the ODU football stadium. We hope to have some of these groups visit us over the course of the year.
With city elections behind us, we will kick off with our June meeting on the 16th with our ODU neighbors joining us for an update of the happenings at the university. We have invited the police chief, Dean of Student Affairs and their AVP for community engagement to give us a great opportunity to share what we enjoy about and are concerned with regarding Old Dominion University.
We will also discuss and, hopefully, vote on some improvements in parking for some of our neighborhood areas. (see article below)
Our police support from the city and ODU will be there as well. Updates from neighborhood watch will be discussed; we are always looking for more support to keep our neighborhood safe.
The great weather is upon us which at times brings more friends than we would like to the neighborhood. Please remember to be secure, clean up after pets, and most of all make it a great Summer!

Proposed Standardization of Neighborhood Parking Regulations
Excerpt from Residential Parking Permit Program Committee proposal:
"The Residential Parking Program (RPP) Permits in Larchmont/Edgewater consists of two zones as shown on the map (below). Currently blocks within Zone 5 (blue) RPP post different restrictions as to hours and days of the week when parking without a permit is permissible. A section of the west side of Powhatan Avenue has been established as a Zone 4 (green) RPP with yet another set of restriction options. These 45 total blocks with permit parking have 9 different parking regulations. This makes enforcement very difficult. Lack of parking enforcement during evening hours and weekends perpetuates the parking problems."

Your Neighborhood Watch
There were a total of 47 crimes reported during April and May, which is comparable with the 41 last year. Unfortunately we experienced our 1st robbery in two years when a college student was robbed while walking home around 10:40 PM in the 1500 block of Buckingham Ave. Five males, described as white and black males around 18-22 years old, approached and assaulted him and stole his phone and wallet. The victim could not provide any further information. Of the 2 residential burglaries, one involved an ex-boyfriend that use to live there, while in the other entry was gained by prying the backdoor open and firearms and money were taken. Residential burglaries typically occur during the day, so if you notice strangers and suspicious activity, please call the police and let them check them out. The majority of crimes continue to be vehicle related. The 5 stolen vehicles have all been recovered, and keys left in unlocked vehicles have been contributing factors. While the vehicle related crimes have been sporadic, the large number of vehicles left unlocked in our area have even drawn some criminals from Newport News here. Some residents have said they leave the vehicles unlocked because there is nothing of value to take or they may break a window to get in. Criminals don't know that, and will ransack the car to see what they can find, even if it's only a few dollars in coins. Some vehicle windows broken recently appear to be pure vandalism probably done by local teens. So please help reduce crime by locking your cars, and be very conscientious about removing spare keys and valuables from vehicles. There is a new Lieutenant in charge of the Third Patrol Division's Blue Sector, which includes Larchmont/Edgewater. Lt. Terry Gibbs has relieved retired Lt. Jeff Balen. Lt Gibbs' contact information is as follows: 757-823-4449, Terry.Gibbs@norfolk.gov Chuck Davis Neighborhood Watch Coordinator 440-1081
