Recording CLE Hours for Non-Approved Providers 

At its meeting of January 11, 2013, The West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors approved a $20 fee for reporting CLE credit hours submitted for any program which has not received prior approval from the MCLE Commission.  The filing fee will become effective for all non-approved hours submitted on or after March 18.  Click here to view a copy of the form.  If you have questions, contact Hope Gresham at greshamh@wvbar.org or 304-553-7238.

Lawyer Referral Service Now Online

The West Virginia State Bar's Lawyer Referral Service Committee has introduced a new Lawyer Referral Service website! www.wvlawyerreferral.org

The new service is designed to provide a faster and easier way for the public to connect with attorneys who may be willing to take on new cases. Participants in the new Lawyer Referral Service can be searched by practice area and zip code.  Please refer individuals seeking legal representation, which you are not able to provide, to this new website, rather than to the State Bar office. 

Judicial Benchmark - Now Available 

The 2013 Judicial Benchbook for Child Abuse and Neglect Proceedings is now available for free download. The benchbook is a must-have resource for anyone practicing in child abuse/neglect cases, as it contains case law, statutes, rules, and more information related to this field. See below for Court Improvement (CIP) Cross-training conferences. 

Living Monuments: The Courthouse Book Release Delayed 

Release of a Book of the 55 County Courthouses of West Virginia, originally scheduled for February 16, 2013 has been delayed.  Further information will be provided as it is received. 

Public Interest Advocates Annual Auction 

The Public Interest Advocates are celebrating 25 years of supporting public interest fellows at the annual PIA Auction! The Auction will take place on March 7, 2013

The Minority Lawyers Committee Of the West Virginia State Bar Call for Interest
The Minority Lawyers Committee of the West Virginia State Bar recognizes that achieving diversity in the legal profession is an evolutionary process that requires continued effort and commitment. Realizing that a diverse group of talented legal professionals is important to the success of law firms, law departments, public service organizations and other legal entities, the Minority Lawyers Committee has made it a priority to reach out to West Virginia College of Law and assist with the Minority Clerkship Program.

Voluntary Good Practices Guidance to Combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing

The ABA Task Force on Gatekeeper Regulation and the Profession has worked with other entities to develop voluntary good practices guidance for lawyers to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.  The Task Force has concerns about how mandatory gatekeeper provisions might affect confidential attorney-client relationships and other issues.  Below are two publications from the ABA Task Force:
