"Every day set the simple goal
of being more awake and less distracted."
~Russell Simmons

Greetings!

Whether we are old friends, or we just recently crossed paths, it's possible you don't know a very special part of my back story: I actually have two birthdays.

March 8, 1966 marks the day I was given this life, and July 16, 2010 is the day I was brought back to it. Less than a handful of people know the full details of my brush with death after bleeding complications following a routine hysterectomy led to cardiac arrest.

I recall being chilled to the bone, shaking uncontrollably in excruciating chest pain with each breath, then before me there suddenly appeared the most brilliant yellow sun I'd ever seen. As it came closer, I opened my arms up wide to soak up its unbelievable warmth. Feeling like I was wrapped tightly in a blanket that had come straight out of the dryer, I was finally able to take a deep breath without pain. No more had I uttered a grateful "ahh" than I noticed the sun getting closer and realized I was speeding towards its center and away from life as I knew it. I can still feel my head shaking "no" and hear my voice, in a terrifying moment of recognition, saying "oh, hell no! I still have stuff to do!"

As Mother Teresa said "Life is life. Fight for it." And fight I did. Needless to say, I haven't been the same since. There were promises made while making my way back that I am busy living up to. In addition to showing as much love to my family and friends as I can, and empowering women with resilience tools to thrive in work and life, I'm more deeply committed than ever to taking the lead role as C.E.O. of my own life and encouraging others  to do the same.

Life is short and we don't have the luxury of knowing with any degree of certainty that we'll still be here tomorrow. The bittersweet truth is that our lives are only on loan to us.

As challenging as it is to be conscious amidst life's many distractions, I don't want to disappear into default.  I want to use my gifts, past experiences, and current challenges to stay present under the pressures of life.

For me it takes large daily doses of Grace, Grit, and Gratitude!

Your Turn...What keeps you Awake to, Focused on, and Engaged with what matters the most to you?

Life is a gift, & the journey is the reward!

P.S. See you at a Synergy Success Circle March 11th or 12th?

"SLOW DANCE"

by inspirational writer David Weatherford

Have you ever watched kids on a merry go round? Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?  Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?  Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You Better slow down.  Don't dance so fast.  Time is short.  The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?  When you ask "how are you"? do you hear the reply?  When the day is done do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You Better slow down.  Don't dance so fast.  Time is short.  The music won't last.

Ever told your child, We'll do it tomorrow?  And in your haste, not see his sorrow?  Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die, 'cause you never had time to call and say Hi?

You Better slow down.  Don't dance so fast.  Time is short.  The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere, you miss half the fun of getting there.  When you worry and hurry through your day, it's like an unopened gift...Thrown away.

Life is not a race.  Do take it slower.  Hear the music before the song is over.
