Congratulations to Access Sacramento's High School PSA Contest Winners
Franklin High School student, Nick Conklin, wins first place in Access Sacramento's 2nd annual High School Public Service Announcement (PSA) video contest for his video promoting emergency readiness for the Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services website SacramentoReady.org.

Conklin's 30-second video was judged the top video among 56 entries from six different high school video production programs.

Second place was won by another Franklin High School Student, Adrian Espinoza, for his 30-second PSA "The Sky is Blue" promoting the
SpareTheAir.com website from the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District.

Third place was won by a student team from Pleasant Grove High School for its PSA animation, also about SpareTheAir.com. Students Andrew Engelman, Jimmy Lam, Luke Leonard and Pratule Saini created the project.
The third client supported by Access Sacramento's PSA competition was the local Food Literacy Center's website FoodLiteracyCenter.org. Each of the three client organizations may use any of the entries created for their website on their websites or in social media to promote their organizations.
An award certificate will be presented March 30 during the live 5 p.m. Access Sacramento LiveWire interview show. The program can be watched on Comcast or Consolidated Communications cable channel 17, AT&T U-Verse channel 14 or live-streamed from AccessSacramento.org.

"Short Film Production Tips" Workshop with Nate Schemel Starts April 2
Filmmaker, college-professor, Film Festival creator Nate Schemel offers four Saturday's of tips, techniques and short-cuts to making a short film.

For many in the class, they're also preparing to volunteer during Access Sacramento's Cast and Crew Call for the "Place Called Sacramento" Film Festival.
Students will learn about working on a film crew, including working with actors, directors and technicians. Specific skills on operating a camera, helping get great sound recordings, and helping a film crew help the actors "Be" the part.
The class is a perfect match for all filmmakers, whether beginners or more experienced.
The workshop consists of four, 4-hour classes. Session starts Saturdays April 2 - April 23 from 11am-3pm. There is a $50 fee and limited enrollment. Script Submission Deadline April 1

The deadline for authors to submit scripts to the "A Place Called Sacramento" competition is coming up. Winning scripts allow the writers to turn into producers, to create their movie during the summer, and to have their project air on the big screen coming up in October. The Business Showcase & I Love Film Mixer was a great way to get out of the rain this past Friday. The event was full of local businesses and members of the local film community. Access Sacramento and SacramentoVIPs was honored to be a part of this years' event. This was a great way for them to share how they help in the television/film community with those who were there.

The special event speaker was Mark S. Allen. Allen shared some of his stories about his career and answered questions from the audience. Those in attendance were invited to the after party where they got to meet Allen and other local celebrities.
Special Thanks! to Kathleen Dodge (Executive Director - El Dorado/Lake Tahoe Film & Media office and her team) for putting this event together. This yearly event is a great way to network and learn about our local film industry. Mark your calendar for next year and remember admission is FREE.

Celebrate Women's History Month, Women Veterans, Quilting, and some special guests on this week's LiveWire!
Melissa Washington, Director of the Women Veteran Alliance will be joining Ray to discuss "She Also Served: Women Veterans History Month Portrait Exhibit" a look at women veterans who have served our country and the important role they play in our community.
 In our next segment, Faye Wilson Kennedy will join Ray to talk about the "Sisters Quilting Collective's 2016 Quilt Show". Featuring an opening reception, beautiful quilts by local and regional quilters, wearable art, dolls, children's activities, raffles, our 2016 colorful Opportunity Quilt, and much more.
Then we will be joined by some special guests with an interesting look at Irish History.

CA La Femme Competition Replays Sunday 10pm
Hometown TV presents the new regional pageant for CA La Femme Magnifique and CA La Femme Plus a pageant to crown the most beautiful female impersonators in California beginning this Saturday. The event was videotaped at The Crest Theatre in downtown Sacramento.
The La Femme pageant was created in 1983. The pageant has grown to see contestants from throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The awards presentation was hosted on Access Sacramento by film and music historian Matias Bombal. Students presented their historical research in the form of museum-style exhibits, live stage performances, video documentaries, websites and research papers.
Judges selected the top projects to advance to the California State History Day competition later this Spring.

Save the Date BIG Day of Giving - May 3
Once again this May, 2016 Access Sacramento will be participating in the BIG Day of Giving, an internet day of on-line celebration for area non-profits. Plans are underway on how Access Sacramento can support participants in the event, including with live television coverage of local non-profits' events that day. Access Sacramento thanks all its television and radio members and hopes for tremendous support throughout the region when the BIG Day of Giving arrives. In 2015, more than $5-million was collected in support of local arts and cultural non-profits in the Sacramento region.

HD Remote Truck For Access Sacramento Approaching
We are excitedly awaiting the arrival and completion of a uniquely designed high-definition remote production truck being built especially for us.

Stairs will lead to the two doors where the technicians will work. Storage in the belly-bays will securely store equipment for use during Hometown TV events.
|
It's a 21-foot box behind the cab-over Isuzu engine and we're very thankful for the support of the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission for helping us take the next step toward a fully high-definition workflow.

The back door opens into the audio booth, and the forward door opens into the video control room with camera switcher, instant replay and high-definition recording, transmission and graphics equipment. The counter tops, air-conditioning, generator, roof-top camera platform, and awning should be finished this week which will leave about six weeks for integrator TV Pro Gear to do the HD equipment installation and wiring before the Access Sacramento vehicle is premiered at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, NV April 18.
