Changes Coming for KUBU Internet Streaming
Before the end of the month, Access Sacramento's KUBU 96.5 FM will be moving to a new Internet streaming provider. The company that has provided Internet streaming to Access Sacramento will be closing business at the end of January. LIVE 365 has provided the Internet outreach for Access Sacramento's radio and cablecast audio, and for many other small and large stations and even garage-style home broadcasters for more than a decade, but the company announced Friday it is closing down. The news release indicated a combination of new music licensing rules that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2016 and the loss of several investors requires the closure. Streaming for the Access Sacramento main website will be unchanged, but the direct LIVE 365 website and Live 365 mobile app will no longer be available. Access Sacramento doesn't expect any loss of cablecast or Internet streaming capacity during the transition to a new streaming provider, although some delay in a reset for the TuneIn Radio mobile app for phone or iPad users is possible. Access Sacramento added Internet streaming for its radio producers more than a decade ago, and in Nov. 2014 also added the over-the-air low-power FM radio station KUBU-LP. For most of its first two decades, The Voice of Sacramento could only be heard by cable subscribers.
