KUBU 96.5 FM
Celebrates Its Birthday in Style

Several members of the Access Sacramento's radio community celebrated the KUBU 96.5 FM birthday with its first remote broadcast Friday from Nation-Wide Freezer Meats restaurant in downtown Sacramento.
Testing Remote Equipment for a Live Broadcast

Radio hosts, interviewers, DJs and several members of the Access Sacramento board of directors participated this premiere remote broadcast using new equipment funded by the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission.

It was one year ago when KUBU 96.5 FM officially signed on with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Now, Access Sacramento supports nearly 70 radio producers who create nearly 100 hours of original programming weekly.

Many of KUBU 96.5 FM's shows were represented including Dave Jurewicz with "Dave Rocket Radio," Mike Lidskin with "Twirl Radio" and Sharon Sampsel and Patricia Rivas, KUBU's "Two Psychic Chicks."

Happy 1st Birthday to KUBU.  We look forward to many more years of bringing community radio to the airwaves;  Even as the Internet radio station approaches a decade on the web, and "The Voice of Sacramento" nears 30 years of cablecast audio.

Special thanks to radio producer Cameron Dias for providing the KUBU  t-shirts.  Contact the main office to purchase one for $22.

Tune in to 96.5 FM near downtown Sacramento or listen to KUBU on the TuneIn or Live365 mobile radio apps.  On your computer connect to AccessSacramento.org.

Special Sacramento Media Edge
Presentation Nov. 29

"Preventing Gun Violence:
An International Perspective"

The Media Edge episode Nov. 29 showcases a Sacramento presentation  by Rebecca Peters, the founding director of the International Action Network on Small Arms.
IANSA Founding Director Rebecca Peters

On October 25, 2015, the Joint Annual Dinner of the Sacramento Chapters of Physicians for Social Responsibility and the United Nations Association featured Peters as their keynote speaker.

During her keynote address, Ms.Peters described how she and her Australian colleagues were able to get the nationwide ban on assault  weapons passed.

She noted that following the ban, over a million firearms were removed from circulation, overall rates of firearm related deaths and injuries, already much lower than in the United States, declined even further, and there hasn't been a single additional mass shooting. Ms. Peters challenged Americans to take similar action to stop the epidemic of gun violence in our country.
