Community Radio KUBU 96.5
Celebrates is Birthday LIVE
From Downtown Sacramento

It's time to meet air staff from KUBU 96.5 FM, Access Sacramento and community dignitaries during The Voice of Sacramento's 1st over-the-air birthday party.
KUBU community producers planning for Friday's Birthday remote broadcast with Radio Programming Director Shane Carpenter (front).

Hard to imagine it was a year ago that KUBU signed on for the first time one-year ago.  Since then, the air staff has grown to more than 70 community radio shows, providing nearly 100 hours a week of original programming.

Show up Friday between 4:00 and 8:00 pm at Nationwide Freezer Meats Restaurant (1930 H Street, Sacramento) where KUBU will originate its first live remote broadcast on over-the-air KUBU.

A year ago, the transmitter was in its first hours of operation, but Friday, it will be the first hours for new remote equipment using technology that was provided the the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission so that the community voice can broadcast live from anywhere in Sacramento County.

Several short cut-ins will be done between 4 and 6 pm, with a 6pm Birthday Bash launch and cake cutting.  Stop by to say hello and have piece of cake before it runs out.
KUBU window cling bumper stickers will be available, and air staff will be on the air live.

Tune in to 96.5 FM or listen to KUBU on the TuneIn or Live365 mobile radio apps.  On your computer connect to AccessSacramento.org.

Access Sacramento offices will be closed Wed. Nov. 11 for Veterans Day

We will reopen Thursday for regular business hours

CIF Playoffs Return to Access Sacramento After 3-Year Absence

Friday 7pm Live
Pitman at Del Campo

Access Sacramento is pleased to announce the return of High School playoffs thanks to a partnership with the NFHS Network.

Hometown Sports Game of the Week will broadcast the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 first round game between the Pitman High School Pride of Turlock and the Del Campo High School Cougars of Fair Oaks.
CIF-SJS Hall of Fame Coach Jim Dimino (left) with Play by Play Announcer Will James at last week's Game of the Week.

This is the first CIF playoff game on Access Sacramento since a new TV broadcast rights structure created three years ago meant it would cost a $1,500 fee to do a live broadcast, a price  too expensive for our non-profit non-commercial channel to get involved.

The NFHS Network partnership means the game can be seen live in Sacramento County on cable TV:  Comcast or Consolidated Communications cable channel 17 or AT&T channel 14.  The game will not be streamed from our regular website though.  Instead, the game will be streamed exclusively from the NFHS Network through its broadcast rights partnership with the CIF-SJS office.

For a full preview of the Pitman vs. Del Campo game visit the AccessLocal.TV article HERE.  Game of the Week Executive Producer and announcer Will James previews the star players and who to watch.

Game highlights can also be found on the AccessLocal.TV website and on the Access Sacramento YouTube channel.

For immediate Game of the Week news including in-game information, follow @SacGOTW on twitter.

Franklin Shut Out of Pleasant Grove Caps Regular Season Game of the Week

Two Delta League teams head to the playoffs this Friday after a surprising Franklin shout out victory over Pleasant Grove in the final regular season broadcast for Access Sacramento's Game of the Week.

Check out the video highlights with Will James and Jim Dimino.

The highlights feature plenty of what can only be called the "Lamar Jackson" show, as the star quarterback ran for four touchdowns including a 96-yard break away, threw a pass for another, and even picked up a two-point conversion.

Check it all out tonight in the full game replay at 7pm and Wednesday at 11 a.m. on Comcast or Consolidated Communications Channel 17, AT&T U-Verse Channel 14 and streaming from AccessSacramento.org.

You can see the highlights of each football game and a preview of the next week's game on Access Sacramento's news blog AccessLocal.tv

WAVE Awards to Honor
Best in the West Access Videos

Act Fast - Deadline Nov. 30

The annual awards competition by the Alliance for Community Media - West has opened it on-line entry portal.

https://filmfreeway.com/festival/thewaveawards

The Western Access Video Excellence (WAVE) awards competition is accepting entries now.  The regular entry deadline is Nov. 30.  A late deadline, with slightly higher entry fees is Dec. 15.  The final deadline is Jan. 1, 2016.
Winners will be announce during the ACM-West annual conference, this year in Honolulu, Hawaii in mid-March.  Video entries must originate in California, Nevada, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico or Arizona.

WAVE award entries will be judged and finalists will be named in Mid-January, with enough time for any entrants who would like to attend the awards ceremony to get the lowest airfares to Hawaii.

Entry categories include community events, information and news, sports, music, inspirational/religious, live, narrative film and documentary and plenty more.

Competitive divisions allow similar skills sets to compete one again the other.  As always, videos that have aired on access channels in six western states compete as community producers (volunteer) or professional producers (paid),  A new division this year allows competition for videos that have not aired on access channels.

For more information on the conference, visit ACM-West.org
