Soapbox Host Jeanie Keltner
Announces Retirement
After 23 Years on Access Sacramento

Soapbox Host Jeanie Keltner retiring after 23 years
Next Monday at 8:00 pm when Soapbox interview host Jeanie Keltner says hello on Access Sacramento channel 17, she will also be saying goodbye. it will be her last show as host of the long standing discussion program that's been a jewel in Access Sacramento programming for more than two decades.

Keltner, 77, who has hosted or co-hosted the progressive weekly talk and interview program for the last 23 years last night revealed her intention to retire.

She recalled the first program in 1992, created just six years after Access Sacramento was formed, was with co-hosts Ken Adams and John Reiger.  Now, more than 1,000 shows later, Soapbox still has one of the largest volunteer TV crews in the entire Access Sacramento arsenal.

Access Sacramento commends Keltner for her commitment over the many years, for her lively commentary, inciteful wit, and dedication to helping demonstrate just how wonderful Sacramento is and can be.

We'll miss you and hope you'll stop by as a guest host or as an on-going friend of Access Sacramento for many years to come.

Congratulations and all of us in the Access Sacramento family wish you the very best in your retirement.

Access Sac Youth Reporters for AccessLocal.Tv Recognized at Statewide Conference

Four of AccessLocal.Tv's Neighborhood News Correspondents and their Program Manager have just returned from a two-day youth media conference in Los Angeles, hosted by the California Endowment. Ivan Caballero, Kiara Crenshaw, David Alcala, and Fabiana Davila-Viera  traveled with Isaac Gonzalez to convene with other youth media producers from all over the state and to share their experiences and know-how.
Youth Reporters  (From Left) Ivan Caballero, Kiara Crenshaw, David Alcala and Fabiana Davila-Viera
Participants received training and encouragement from a variety of consultants and media organizations with a focus on giving their stories more impact and distribution.

"I've never been to anything like this before in my life," said Caballero, 16. "It is very motivating to know that I'm part of a team and a network of youth media sites that are all working across California to share the stories from their communities and help make a difference."

AccessLocal.Tv is a community news website that  empowers young people in Sacramento to share the stories from their neighborhoods that might  otherwise go unreported. Program Manager Isaac Gonzalez mentors up to six youth reporters at a time and provides them with the training and support they need to become effective storytellers. The California Endowment has provided significant financial support to this program for the past five years.

"Giving a voice to the youth in Sacramento, and providing a forum to these important issues which young people care about has been the most rewarding achievement of my professional career," said Gonzalez. "The skills taught in our program are transformational to our correspondents. They often remark that the program changes the way they view the world and their ability to express their opinions about it."

The Neighborhood News Correspondents will begin to utilize the techniques and strategies learned during the conference over the next few weeks. To follow their progress, visit AccessLocal.Tv on a regular basis.

Jesuit at Monterey Trail

Friday 7pm on Game of the Week

by Will James
Hometown Sports
Jesuit quarterback #13 Calvin Brownholtz
The Jesuit Marauders continue their second half push through the perilous Delta League, still hoping to earn a ticket to the post-season.  The only absolute assurance of securing a playoff berth lies in their ability to run the table during the remainder of the regular season and thereby control their own destiny.

The next step is Friday at 7pm at Monterey Trail LIVE on Access Sacramento's Game of the Week.

Last week, after trailing 20-7, Marlon Blanton's 5-3 Marauders escaped with a 27-20 win over Franklin last week when Calvin Brownholtz connected with Jonah Allman on a 47-yard touchdown pass with less than a minute remaining to edge the Wildcats and stay in the playoff hunt.

Monterey Trail Mustangs' Junior QB Robert Holt has registered an impressive 101 QB Rating and has emerged as an exciting double threat, accounting for more than 500 yards and 15 TDs.  All-Metro TE/LB Neville Bood is an imposing force on both sides of the football.
