Soapbox Host Jeanie Keltner Announces Retirement After 23 Years on Access Sacramento
|
Soapbox Host Jeanie Keltner retiring after 23 years
|
Next Monday at 8:00 pm when Soapbox interview host Jeanie Keltner says hello on Access Sacramento channel 17, she will also be saying goodbye. it will be her last show as host of the long standing discussion program that's been a jewel in Access Sacramento programming for more than two decades. Keltner, 77, who has hosted or co-hosted the progressive weekly talk and interview program for the last 23 years last night revealed her intention to retire. She recalled the first program in 1992, created just six years after Access Sacramento was formed, was with co-hosts Ken Adams and John Reiger. Now, more than 1,000 shows later, Soapbox still has one of the largest volunteer TV crews in the entire Access Sacramento arsenal. Access Sacramento commends Keltner for her commitment over the many years, for her lively commentary, inciteful wit, and dedication to helping demonstrate just how wonderful Sacramento is and can be. We'll miss you and hope you'll stop by as a guest host or as an on-going friend of Access Sacramento for many years to come. Congratulations and all of us in the Access Sacramento family wish you the very best in your retirement.

Participants received training and encouragement from a variety of consultants and media organizations with a focus on giving their stories more impact and distribution.
"I've never been to anything like this before in my life," said Caballero, 16. "It is very motivating to know that I'm part of a team and a network of youth media sites that are all working across California to share the stories from their communities and help make a difference."
AccessLocal.Tv is a community news website that empowers young people in Sacramento to share the stories from their neighborhoods that might otherwise go unreported. Program Manager Isaac Gonzalez mentors up to six youth reporters at a time and provides them with the training and support they need to become effective storytellers. The California Endowment has provided significant financial support to this program for the past five years.
"Giving a voice to the youth in Sacramento, and providing a forum to these important issues which young people care about has been the most rewarding achievement of my professional career," said Gonzalez. "The skills taught in our program are transformational to our correspondents. They often remark that the program changes the way they view the world and their ability to express their opinions about it."
The Neighborhood News Correspondents will begin to utilize the techniques and strategies learned during the conference over the next few weeks. To follow their progress, visit AccessLocal.Tv on a regular basis.
