"Win, Lose or Draw" Named
Audience Favorite in 16th
Place Called Sacramento

Writer/Director Donna Preston of "Win, Lose or Draw" holding both the "Audience Favorite" award and her "Official Selection" award.
Eight original Sacramento-based short films enjoyed their world premiere  Sunday in the 16th annual "A Place Called Sacramento" film festival presented by Access Sacramento.

"Win, Lose or Draw" by Donna Preston, a story about a woman whose short-signed gambling addiction gets in the way of both true love AND money, was voted "Audience Favorite" as more than 500 people watched at Sacramento's historic Crest Theater.

(From Left) Phil D'Asaro of "Death of Del Paso," Access Sacramento Board chair JoAnna Davis, Katherine DaSilva from "Focused" and Festival Director Gary Martin
The other specialty award is by vote of the eight-winning writers/producers who cast ballot for the Producer's Choice Award.  This year a drama, Focused by  Katherine DaSilva, and a documentary, "Death of Del Paso" by Phil D'Asaro were both awarded.

All of the filmmakers greeted their fans, cast and crew in the lobby before the films showed on the big screen.

For a PHOTO GALLERY with more pictures of the Film Festival, visit AccessLocal.TV.

A DVD of the "A Place Called Sacramento" movie premiere and awards show is available for purchase from the Access Sacramento office by calling 916-456-8600 ext. 0.

Access Sacramento congratulates all of the filmmakers, the hundreds of volunteers who helped make the films, and the sponsors who make the festival possible.

Dubious Dual Directions in Delta Duel

By WILL JAMES
Home Town Sports

With four games remaining on the regular season schedule, two conference rivals find themselves at a crossroads when they meet in a Delta League match-up Friday evening; a meeting that should determine which directions they're headed, and the respective roles they'll assume for the remainder of the season.
The Jesuit Marauders, having established a long-standing tradition of football success, laden with playoff prominence and sectional championship adornment, journey from Carmichael to the extreme South Sacramento border to face Sheldon.
In direct contrast, the Huskies' football program, with a minimal history by comparison, has yet to achieve the status of being a consistently ranked team or a degree of perennial achievement, often languishing in the subordinate shadow of Sheldon's powerhouse boys basketball program.
On paper, Jesuit should be considered a significant favorite against Sheldon. However, under the surface of their respective records and perceived levels of power, lies a measure of cloudy uncertainty.
This being said, area fans can tune into Access Sacramento's live telecast of the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week Friday evening at 7:00 pm on Comcast Cable channel 17, Consolidated Communications Cable channel 17, AT&T U-Verse channel 14, and on the Internet at accesssacramento.org.
