Radio Producers Gather in Support of KUBU 96.5 FM

More than two dozen of Access Sacramento's community radio producers met last Wednesday night to plan what's next for Sacramento County's only public access radio station KUBU 96.5 FM.

Radio producers create the music, talk, political interview, religious, poetic and ethnic programming that's heard of Access Sacramento's low-power FM radio station.

The meeting was held to one-hour and covered topics including the planned purchase of new equipment, techniques on avoiding commercial content and ramping up the promotions machine.
Radio Coordinator Shane Carpenter says last week's meeting is the kickoff for regularly monthly meetings of the radio producers on the 2nd Wednesday of every month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Nevada City room of the Coloma Community Center.

Current radio producers and those interested in starting their own radio show are welcome to attend.

Access Sacramento Executive Director Gary Martin was unable to attend the producer meeting because he was describing the station's over-the-air launch success at the 2015 national convention for the Alliance for Community Media in Pasadena.
Radio Panelists (Back, from left) Clay Leander, President of Common Frequency, Gary Martin, Access Sacramento Executive Director, Jeff Shaw, Davis Community Media and KDRT, (Front Row, from left) Michelle Alimoradi, community radio producer and Marketing Manager for Tightrope Media Systems, and Erica Tyron, Director of College Radio and Television, Pomona College.

Martin was a panelist on how public access media centers like Access Sacramento can expand their outreach beyond television to include an ever-growing population of radio broadcasters.

More than 400 people attended the annual ACM national convention dedicated to empowering free speech through the use of public, government and educational access cable TV, internet and over-the-air broadcasting.

For more information about Access Sacramento's KUBU 96.5 FM, or to sign up for a class to have your own radio show, call 916-456-8600 ext. 0.
