Hometown TV Covers Local Youth Bands in 35th Stairway to Stardom
Access Sacramento's Hometown TV crew was back in action Sunday at the historic Crest Theatre covering Skip's Music's 35th annual "Stairway to Stardom" youth band training and music competition.

The live concert production was handled by a team of 10 Access Sacramento crew using a NewTek Tri-caster and Sony NX-Cams.
Young musician, singers and songwriters met  eight-weeks ago to create more than a dozen brand new rock bands.

Two months of work paid off Sunday with a rock concert as each new band presented three original songs.

Cameraman Danny Mendonsa captured the action handheld from behind the band.
Access Sacramento recorded the band's performances and interviewed the band members for playback later this Fall on channel 17.

Using four-cameras for the video coverage and taking a live performance mix from Skip's Music during the concert, Access Sacramento will edit the concert into the 'best' of each band's three-song sets.

A DVD of the concert Access Sacramento's coverage is available for $30 purchase with a credit card by contacting the Access Sacramento main office at 916-456-8600 ext. 0.

Broadway & Film Star Ben Vereen Visits "Sacramento Film Works" at Access Sacramento

The Access Sacramento TV studio welcomed legendary film and stage star Ben Vereen Monday to the taping of the Northern California Filmmaker Coalition's monthly taping of "Sacramento Film Works."
Ben Vereen (left) with Sacramento Film Works hosts Craig DeLuz and Amy Henry

Vereen, 68, launched his Broadway career in 1965 and continues to perform on stage, TV and Film, appearing earlier this year as the mayor of Cleveland in TV's "Hot in Cleveland."

The show taping features tips about Hollywood success, but also encourages overall support for the arts. Vereen tells how he was spurred to push for youth training and opportunity after hearing an elected official in Washington DC call today's youth a "lost" generation.  Vereen rejects that description.

You can hear more during the Sacramento Film Works playback beginning Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. on Access Sacramento channel 17.

Community Radio Producers meet Tomorrow Night to Plan for the Future of KUBU 96.5 FM

Access Sacramento's community of nearly 70 radio producers will meet tomorrow night to plan for the future of the station, including how best to use some new remote equipment for use on "The Voice of Sacramento" KUBU-LP 96.5 FM.
Radio Coordinator Shane Carpenter will lead the meeting in the Nevada City room down the hall from Access Sacramento in the Coloma Community Center, 4623 T. Street, Sacramento.

"The Voice of Sacramento" moved from its cablecast and internet streaming to an over-the-air station in November, 2014.

With more than 90-original hours of community radio programming each week, Access Sacramento hopes to better help its radio producers with promoting the station in the community and on-the-air.  Some ideas include remote broadcast and better use of the Access Sacramento website.

Access Sacramento Executive Director Gary Martin
Meanwhile, Executive Director Gary Martin will be in Pasadena Thursday to tout KUBU 96.5 FM's successful launch at the Alliance for Community Media national conference.

For more information about Access Sacramento's KUBU 96.5 FM, or to sign up for a class to have your own radio show, call 916-456-8600 ext. 0.
