Budget Hearing Thursday
Cable Commission Considers
Cost of Living & Equipment Requests

Access Sacramento's annual funding request goes before the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission (SMCTC) Thursday at 2:30 p.m.during a budget hearing at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors chambers.

The Cable Commission staff is recommending a 4% Cost of Living increase for 2015-16.  It's only the fourth time in 15 years a COLA for access channels has been recommended and the Board of Directors and staff are extremely grateful.

Sacramento Metropolitant Cable Television Commission
The SMCTC members, made up of city council or board of supervisors members, review and approve the annual funding requests from all the    Public, Education and Government (PEG) channel operators, including Access Sacramento's channel 17 & 18.

The Metro 14 government access channel, educational channels 15 & 16 run by the Sacramento Educational Cable Consortium and channel 7 run by KVIE, and Capital Public Radio also submit SMCTC funding requests.

There are two funding streams collected from cable subscribers. Cable franchise fee money  primarily funds the city and county for basic needs like roads, police and fire and other infrastructure, but also supports salaries and some operational expenses of the grantees. A Capital Outlay PEG Fund helps with equipment purchases but may not be used for operational expenses.

On the capital outlay side, Access Sacramento is asking for funding to support a variety of production equipment, cameras, video editing computers, and web services.

We are also grateful that the commission staff is recommending a major high-definition upgrade for the remote production truck that does Hometown Sports and Game of the Week.

The truck was designed by TV Pro Tools company out of Hollywood.  The vehicle and equipment

For Access Sacramento, in addition to being hopeful of requesting salary and operational expenses, we are also requesting equipment modernization for our remote production truck and for an expansion to our digital media computer lab among other equipment requests.

The public is invited to attend the budget hearing or it can be watched live on Metro 14 or heard on KUBU 96.5 FM.

"A Place Called Sacramento" Filmmakers Build Teams
For Summer Production

Director Greg Marker's "A River Runs, Shoe It" is the first of the 10 A Place Called Sacramento winning film makers to begin production.  His team will capture footage over the next three weekends in order to capture the primary story.

A Place Called Sacramento Mascot "Quentin Sacramento"
Nine other filmmakers are at a variety of different stages in pre-production process.

Axel Ahern's "River of Fear" and Phil D'Asaro's "Death of Del Paso" have been doing minor rewrites of their scripts since the initial announcement of the winners several weeks ago.

Most of the other filmmakers are still working out the casting of their films.  Donna Preston's "Win, Lose or Draw," Katherine DaSilva's "Focused," and Cheryl Wynton's "61 Candles," Josh Mihal's "Losing Kevin," and Tay Ouk's "Night Out" are all still making actor decisions.

Look in this newsletter and in the A Place Called Sacramento Facebook page for details on additional audition times.

Kleantre Shepard's "Method" script has determined its cast, and storyboard artwork is being created to help with the design layout for the shots to be filmed beginning in late June.

Tomorrow 5pm on LiveWire!

Happy June everyone! We're starting off this month with some great entertainment. First up is the brand new California Stage Theater Camp for Teens, headed by our very own host, Ray Tatar. Second, we have author Danna Wilberg on to talk about her new book "The Grey Door".

California Stage is a non-profit partnered theater company dedicated to encouraging arts created by Californian artists.

Their vision informs their choices through their literary, social activist and multicultural points of view. Their work sets them apart from most other local theaters, in that they strive to "present high quality work that explores issues of importance to Californians." In doing a revival, it must have topical significance and or present an artistic challenge to their artists.

For more info on California Stage:

www.calstage.org

Dänna Wilberg is a multi-award-winning, short-film maker who produces and hosts two local TV programs in Sacramento, California. PARANORMAL CONNECTION covers topics such as communicating with the spirit world, UFOs, astral projection, remote viewing, self-healing, past lives, astrology, spirit guides, tarot cards and alternative health. STORY CONNECTION focuses on the "story" behind the story and includes interviews from a variety of artists and ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Dänna has been writing romantic suspense and paranormal fiction for more than ten years. Her novel, The Red Chair is the first release in her trilogy, published by Pretty Road Press. The Grey Door and The Black Dress are scheduled for release in 2015. Dänna weaves messages from the universe in her story telling and attributes her success to hard work and a persistent muse.
